HMS Update - "Salute to Indy" Night 2 @ CSP
We had another decent run tonight at Canyon Speedway Park on night two of the USAC Southwest "Salute to Indy." I pulled pull number 5 to start it off and that put me on the pole of heat 3. On the start I slipped into 2nd and my car was great but when the leader made a bobble I was able to sneak by and get the win. The track was quite a bit heavier than last night and I struggled a bit adapting to it. We then raced the dash where we started and finished 5th. Had it been a little longer I might've been able to get another car or two bit 6 laps wasn't enough. Starting from 5th in the feature we took a gamble on setup and guessed that it would go slick. We guessed right and we jumped into 3rd early. Even while the track was slick there was another tall cushion to lean on and a little bit if moisture on the bottom. I was able to run both and in lapped traffic I was able to get into 2nd before a caution moved us back to 3rd. We were just starting to really click and I didn't want to see that yellow. After that I wasn't quite the same and I rode in 3rd until a caution with a handful of laps to go. On the restart a lap in I got sideways down the backstretch and tagged from behind. At that point I slipped back to 5th. I got next to 4th a few times but wasn't able to make the move so I ended up finishing 5th. It was really good getting a couple of top 5's this weekend but I still feel like I left a few spots out on the track. All in all it was a good couple of runs and we'll carry this momentum going forward!
