Hodges Motorsports Update - Canyon Speedway Park
The Summer Sizzle has come to a close tonight at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, AZ. The night started off for us by taking the #2 pill which put us on the pole of the first heat race. The track was still heavy and fast with some holes developing in turns 1 and 2. After one start was called back, I got to the lead on the second and was able to strech it to a few car lengths. About halfway in the race, I biked in a hole, but kept it on the ground and in the lead. 2nd place then tried a slide job but I crossed over and got back to the lead again just before a caution. Another caution flew, and after the restart, I got out to another good lead but biked again on the last lap. I was still able to hold on to the car and the win, though, which put us in the top 8 re-draw where I drew 7 to start 7th in the feature. The holes got bigger and the track got slicker through the middle for the main, but there was still a good bottom and top groove. In the opening 10 laps, I was able to work myself up to 4th, but after one caution I just seemed unable to make the car work as I had before and started slipping back, all the way to 11th where I hung out until a late race caution which involved 4 cars in front of me and set me into 7th. I would hold on to that spot and finish 7th. It was a bit frustrating not getting the result we would have liked, but the car is in one piece and we can go at it again another day!
