Hodges Motorsports Update - Aztec Speedway Win
The night is all wrapped up here at Aztec Speedway in Aztec, NM. I started out pulling the worst pill, 37, which set me dead last in the last (3rd) heat race. Immediately, the track started getting slick around the bottom, and there was a black streak developing further up. On the start, cars scattered and it was hard to choose a lane, so I started picking off car one by one until I got to 3rd with a few laps left and could not get anymore after that. With the passing points, that was still enough to put us in the top 8 re-draw which set us up to start 3rd in the A-Feature. The track was torn up and watered again, but it was not long until the track was back slick again with ruts and holes in turns 1 and 2 and a smooth-as-glass racing surface through 3 and 4. On the initial start, I made my way to second and slightly pulled away, but me and the leader were evenly matched. Around lap 12 there was a caution and I chose the outside lane in the Delaware Double File restart. After going back to green I was running second before another caution came out just one lap later. This time the inside lane was my choice, and going into turn 1 after receiving the green, I was side by side, and I took the lead going down the backstrech after another lap or two, there once again was a caution, but this time I was in the lead and had the front row to myself. After the restart once again, I was able to get out to the lead and hold it the remainder of the 25 lap feature, scoring the win once again at Aztec. The car was not handling great, but it was enough to get the job done, and we learned some more valuable things that we will take into next weekend. We'd like to thank Napa Auto Parts, Benic Enterprises, Kronik Energy Drink, and all of our fantastic sponsors on the No. 74x Maxim that suppport us. Next weekend we'll head southwest to Tucson, AZ for the two day "Salute to Indy" ASCS Canyon show and try to carry some momentum from tonight.
