Hodges Motorsports Update - USA Raceway
The night is over at the USA Raceway and so is the 3rd Annual Eggstravaganza with the best of the Soutwest series battling it out as well as ASCS National competitor Johnny Herrera. I started 4th in my heat race behind Herrera, Landis, and Norrick, and I was able to get to third on the start but could not advance myself any further. That was just barely enough to get us in the top 8 redraw where I drew 4 to start 4th once again. When I entered turn 1, I got really sideways and alsost lost the car, but I was able to gather it up and keep going at the expense of a few positions lost. I was back to about 6th or 7th when I got in rythm running the bottom and was able to pick off some cars. I made my way up to 3rd on about lap 17 when a caution came out. I was behind the leader Herrera, and 2nd Calvin Landis for a lap before a red came out just a lap later. Landis was put to the back under the red for touching the car in closed conditions, so I moved up to 2nd. The rest of the race went green and a lap after the start, I gave up the 2nd position to Rick Zhiel and finished 3rd. I was really good before the yellow and red, but my car got tight aftewards and got harder to handle. After being just 5 points ahead in the series standing, I fell to 2 points behind in 2nd to Zhiel. Next weekend, if everything goes well this week, we'll head to Phoenix to run two days with the ASCS Canyon region without the wing. Congratulations to Johnny Herrera on the win tonight!
