Mixed Bag At Speed Week For Harli White
PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking part in Lucas Oil ASCS National Speedweek, Harli White did not perform how she had hoped, but the silver lining of the week was figuring out some things wrong on he car and hopefully getting them ironed out to have a successful summer.
“We were not having the runs that we had hoped, so we started playing with some different shocks, and we think we found something that we liked after experimenting with different things over the week,” she said.
At the Lawton Speedway, White started and finished third in her heat aboard her Lucas Oil/MVT/PXP Racewear machine, and with no passing points, she was forced to run the B Main.
The B Main wasn’t kind to the Lindsay, OK driver as he was in the third spot, and lost the handle on her machine, and spun, and wasn’t able to rebound to make the feature.
“Something didn’t feel right on the car in the B, so we tried to change some stuff for the next night at Creek County,” White explained.
Her night at ‘Creek’ got off to a disastrous start as contact at the start of her heat race caused a shock to break, and she retired for the event, putting her scratch on the field in a B Main.
Finally able to get some laps, White showed some serious speed in the B on a tacky, hooked up track, as she was able to work her way all the way up to sixth spot in the non-stop race, but missed out on the feature by a few positions.
“It felt really good in the B Main, and we were able to make some nice moves on the hooked up track, but we just ran out of laps,” she said. “It was a bummer to start our night out with a wreck, but everyone kept their cool and kept working.”
Friday night at the Outlaw Motorsports Park, White was able to get through her heat, where he started 15th in the feature event.
Having some engine issues in the feature event, White made laps, and finished in the 13th spot.
“Something was out of whack with our engine, so it did not run the greatest,” she said. “I was looking to just get some laps under my belt, so I stayed out and just worked on some things for myself.”
Saturday night saw the scene shift to the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO and on this night the team opted to try a different set of shocks, and White seemed to like them as her night got off to a great start.
Lining up sixth in hear heat race, she was on the hammer from the drop of the green flag as she worked her way up to a third place finish, earning enough points to transfer into the feature event, where she lined up in the 10th spot.
In the feature event, White was again on the move as she worked the high, scary side of the speedway, but a few laps into the race, she got into the cushion a little hot, and the end result was her getting her machine upside down, ending her night, and her speedweek.
“Saturday was probably the best our car felt our week, so it was nice to have that in our back pocket,” she explained. “The end result was not a good one, but it was nice to be in the feature.”
Sunday night saw the team take in a night of action at the Double X Speedway. Lining up on the front row of her heat race, White got on the cushion, and walked away from the field as she won the heat race going away.
Lining up in the second row of the feature event, White was running in the third spot, and giving it all she had to run after the leaders, but she lost the handle on her machine as she pushed it to the limits, and she was forced to the back of the pack.
White rebounded with a 12th place finish.
‘Overall it was a learning experience,” she said. “I got to run some new tracks, we learned a lot, and we will have a new shock package for our next race. I can’t thank everyone enough.”
Harli White Racing would like to thank Lucas Oil, Mesilla Valley Transportation, PXP Racewear, Simpson, Classic Seagulls UK, Eagle Motorsports, and the Shriners Hospital For Children Gavelston for their support during the 2014 season.
