Henry Wins 2nd Attica Raceway Feature

Attica, OH) Cap Henry held off Greg Wilson for his second straight win in the O’Reilly Auto Parts 410 Sprints at Attica Raceway Park Friday on WNWO NBC 24/Culy Contracting Night. The Bellevue, Ohio driver had to not only fight Wilson for the win, but a car that lost its brakes the last hand full of laps.

“I really have to give a lot of credit to Wilson…he really could have done it (last lap slider) a lot worse and he raced us clean. He gets as much credit as we do. He could have made that real ugly and I couldn’t stop if I wanted to,” said Henry beside his Genzman Racing/Ludwig Propane/Level Performance/Crown Battery/Automatic Fire Protection/Jet Express/Handy Grafix/Kear’s Speed Shop backed machine.

“I can’t thank this Genzman team enough. They’ve been working so hard. It’s really making me look good now and I’m loving it. I made them look bad early and we’re making up for it now. The caution helped. I was hoping someone would do something because I really didn’t like negotiating the traffic,” added Henry who executed a great restart with 10 laps to go. “I’ve been working on my restarts and it helped tonight.”

In Summit Racing Equipment UMP Late Model feature, five time and defending track champion Ryan Missler finally slammed that gorilla off his back and held off Jeff Babcock for his first win of the season. The victory was the 11th of Missler’s career at Attica.

“My four-year-old daughter drew me a number one last week and I didn’t do so good. So she drew me a one this week and I figured I’d better do something with it,” said Missler beside his York Fabrication/Terry McConnell Excavating/Taze DJ Service/King Industrial Supply/Quality Welding/Cenpeco Lubricants/Keizer Wheels backed machine.

“I knew there wasn’t much to grab hold of coming off four on the bottom. So I figured I’d have the momentum if I didn’t screw up,” added Missler. “I have to thank everyone who helps me…Jerry Huff at York Fabrication, my Uncle Jim, my wife and daughters and my in-laws…everybody that helps. This is great. I’d like to put a little win streak going here,” added Missler of his Gordon Lumber/SCS Gearbox/NAPA of Attica/TNT Farms/Twin Lakes Golf Course/ Pizza House West/Bellevue Beverage Center sponsored #50Y.

The Foster Auto Body 305 Sprint feature was a dandy with Dean Jacobs leading the first 20 laps. But, as he raced into lapped traffic, he made contact with Paul Weaver as they battled for the lead with Jacobs sustaining front end damage. Weaver would hold off T.J. Michael the final four laps to secure his third victory of the season at Attica. The win is the 32nd of Weaver’s career in the 305 sprint division at the track.

“I thought he (Jacobs) had a bad deal coming off the corner so I just drove it in there. I thought I had him clear…I feel bad about that. I don’t want to run Dean like that…he’s a clean driver,” said Weaver beside his Hampshire Engines/Buckeye Mobile Coatings/Fostoria Mod Shop/Weaver Performance Karts and Parts/M&L Excavating/Sunny Farms Land Fill/Tender Touch Car Wash backed #1w.

“I want to thank Jamie Miller for helping me and Bob Hampshire and Dave Rice for putting the motor together and making it run good,” added Weaver.

After taking a wild ride in his 305 sprint, Matt Foos would recover to hold off Shawn Valenti and Kent Brewer in the Fremont Fence Dirt Truck feature to score his second win of the season at Attica.

“You have to be absolutely on your ‘A game’ with those guys. They have had their stuff together and I’ve been scratching my head all week and finally…here we are. The thing was a rocket. No flaw whatsoever,” said Foos beside his Fremont Fence/M&L Excavating/Level Performance/Pit Stop Convenience Stores/Automatic Fire Protection/Buckshot Farms backed #2.

Henry and Broc Martin would bring the field to green for the 30-lap 410 sprint feature but before a lap could be completed Cole Duncan would spin in turn two. When the race resumed Henry bolted into the lead over Martin, Greg Wilson, Andrew Palker, Chris Andrews and Rob Chaney. Wilson would take second on lap two and quickly closed on Henry.

Henry took note of Wilson charging to his outside in turns three and four and quickly moved to that high line and was able to pull away slightly. However, Caleb Helms and Jody Keegan would tangle on lap eight to bring out the caution.

Henry would get a tremendous restart to pull away from Wilson with Martin, Andrews, Caleb Griffith, Palker and Chaney in tow. Andrews would slide in front of Martin for third on lap 10. The leaders would find lapped traffic at the half-way point which allowed Wilson and Andrews to close on Henry with Griffith, Chaney and Martin in pursuit.

Just as things were getting very interesting between Henry, Wilson and Andrews as they raced through traffic, Craig Mintz would stop with a flat left rear tire on lap 20. Now with a clear track, Henry would execute another great restart to pull away as Wilson had his hands full with Andrews and Chaney.

With five laps to go, Wilson began eating into Henry’s lead with Andrews, Chaney, Byron Reed, Griffith and Martin in tow. As the white flag flew, Wilson was right on Henry’s rear bumper. As they entered the final two turns Wilson tried to drive under Henry, but had to pull up or the two would have tangled. Henry was able to drive off the high line of turn four to take the win with Wilson, Andrews, Chaney and Reed rounding out the top five.

Summit Racing Equipment UMP Late Models - Ryan Missler #50Y
Missler and Babcock would set the pace for the 25-lap late model feature with Missler gaining the advantage. Mike Bores, Cody Scott, Garrett Krummert, Matt Irey and John Bores would give chase. Krummert would take third on lap three with the caution flying for a Steve Sabo spin on lap four.

On the restart Krummert would drive around Babcock for second and started to close on Missler. It was a fantastic three car battle for the lead between Missler, Krummert and Babcock until the caution flew on lap 11 for a Bobby Michaels spin. When the green reappeared the three car battle continued.

But, Krummert would slide off the high side of turns one and two on lap 16 to bring out the caution. Now Missler had to deal with Babcock with Irey, Mike Bores, Scott and John Bores in pursuit. With four laps to go Babcock was applying a lot of pressure to Missler with Irey, Mike Bores, Scott and Jim Gingery in tow.

On the last lap Babcock would drive under Missler in the final two corners but Missler would maintain his momentum and take the win over Babcock, Irey, Mike Bores and Gingery.

Foster Auto Body 305 Sprints - Paul Weaver #1W
In the 25-lap 305 sprint feature, Dean Jacobs and Steve Rando paced the field with Jacobs gaining the advantage over Rando, T.J. Michael, Seth Schneider, Tyler Gunn and Nate Dussel. The car on the move was eighth place starter Paul Weaver. He rocketed into fourth by lap two and took third a circuit later.

Luke Griffith would bring out the caution on lap eight with Jacobs leading Rando, Weaver, Gunn, Michael, Dussel and Schneider. Weaver would drive into the runner-up spot on lap 10. With 10 laps to go, Weaver had taken a big bite out of Jacobs’ lead as Rando slid off the track allowing Michael, Gunn, Dussel and Schneider to go by.

The leaders would race into traffic with five laps to go and as they exited turn four Weaver tried to drive under Jacobs with Michael on the very bottom and lapped cars in between. Contact was made by Jacobs, Weaver and Michael with Jacobs sliding into the infield with front end damage.

On the restart Weaver could not shake Michael with Dussel joining the fray with Gunn, Jordan Ryan and Bobby Clark in pursuit. Weaver was able to drive to the victory over Michael, Dussel, Ryan and Clark.

Fremont Fence Company Dirt Trucks - Matt Foos #2
Art Ball and Foos would bring the field to green for the 15-lap dirt truck feature with Foos gaining the advantage over Ball and Brad Keckler. With just two laps recorded, it was a tremendous four truck battle up front between Foos, Ball, Shawn Valenti and Kent Brewer. Brewer would take second on lap three with Valenti racing to his inside.

With just five laps recorded Foos, Brewer and Valenti were racing three wide for the lead when the caution flew on lap six for a Keith Sorg spin. When the green reappeared so did the three truck battle for the lead. While Foos never lost the lead, Brewer and Valenti traded the runner-up spot lap after lap after lap.

Foos would drive a flawless race the rest of the way for the win with Valenti holding off Brewer for second with Dan Roepke Jr. and Kyle Cline rounding out the top five.

Double points are on the line for all four divisions next Saturday, Aug. 23 on Kistler Racing Products Presents the Mark Keegan Classic Championship Night.
