Inside Line Promotions – ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. (June 16, 2015) – Caleb Helms and his team are going through his race car with a fine-toothed comb this week.
Helms has struggled with grip the past couple of weekends and the team is trying to get everything in order as the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Ohio Speedweek, which has nine races at eight tracks in nine days, begins this Friday.
“We have stripped the entire car down,” he said. “We’ve been struggling here lately. We’re going backward somehow and trying to figure it out. It’s frustrating when you’re struggling. I think we’re on the verge of figuring it out, but we might have taken a couple of steps back to find it.”
Helms is coming off a frustrating weekend with the All Stars, which began last Thursday as he made his debut at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in Canandaigua, N.Y. Helms qualified 22nd quickest, placed ninth in a heat race and ended third in the B Main to transfer into the main event. He then picked up a couple of positions to post a 19th-place result.
A lack of grip also thwarted the team on Saturday at Lincoln Speedway, where Helms timed in 33rd in qualifying, finished eighth in a heat race and rallied from 13th to ninth in the B Main.
“We are trying to find a good balance and setup for the car,” he said. “We started out the season pretty strong, but have missed it lately. Hopefully we can get everything turned around during Speedweek, which will offer a lot of racing in a short amount of time.”
Helms enters Ohio Speedweek 10th in the All Star championship standings.
Last Friday’s race at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., was cancelled because of rain.
