Inside Line Promotions – WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (Sept. 30, 2020) – Trey Starks hustled to his third podium finish of the season last Saturday during the Fall Haul at 34 Raceway.

The Gobrecht Motorsports driver made the most of a last-minute decision to tackle the Sprint Invaders show.

“That was super last minute,” he said. “I flew in on Saturday and drove straight to the track. I’d been there twice and we hadn’t finished a race. It was good to actually finish a race there and run well.”

Starks opened the night by advancing from eighth to third place in a heat race, overcoming a high pill draw that lined him up last.

“We drew the highest pill you can draw,” he said. “It was actually cool because they gave us $100 for drawing the worst pill. With the passing point system us going eighth to third put us fourth in points.”

Starks maneuvered from fourth to second place in the dash. That lined him up on the inside of the second row for the main event.

“We ran there the whole time and had a battle for a top-three spot,” he said. “We got a decent start and were running third behind (Scott) Bogucki and (Dylan) Westbrook. Westbrook took the lead. Then just as we were getting by Scott he ended up spinning out. That put us up to second. We had some good restarts and had a bid for the lead, but I couldn’t quite get him behind me. On one restart we fell to third and ended up running third until the last five laps. I picked up a different line. We got by (Paul) Nienhiser for second with two laps to go, but he got me back on the white flag lap. Without as many cautions and racing in more traffic I think we had a better car because I was running a different line, but it was a good, solid night.”

Starks’ third-place run was his third-best result of the season.

The team plans to be off for October before the season concludes Nov. 5-7 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., during the Can-Am World Finals with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
