STARKS FIGHTS LOOSE CAR AT THUNDERBOWL

Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (May 2) – Loose, loose, loose.

That’s the best way to summarize Trey Starks’ weekend, when he overcame an ill-handling sprint car to finish 10th with the ASCS Southern California Region at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., on Saturday.

“The track was just as slick as it could get and didn’t take rubber,” the 15-year-old from Puyallup, Wash., said. “At the start when I picked up the throttle, everyone else was going forward and I was going sideways toward the fence.”

Starks, who started second in the feature, slid back to fourth. He rode around in that position before losing a spot on each of the next two restarts, which presented the toughest challenge of controlling his car.

“We lost like 10 car lengths on each restart,” Starks said. “It was horrible loose.”

He then spun out running sixth midway through the race. That restarted him 15th on a track he described as “glass all the way across.” Starks was able to maneuver his way up to 10th, which is his fourth top 10 of the season.

Despite the difficult night, Starks is second in the ASCS Southern California points and the result was his fourth top 20 this season at the 1/3-mile oval.

Starks is scheduled to race with the ASCS Northwest Region on its opening weekend – Friday at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., and Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash.

“I’m really looking forward to racing back at home,” he said. “I’m excited to show those guys what I’ve learned since last year.”
