Inside Line Promotions – PENNGROVE, Calif. (Feb. 6, 2019) – Chase Johnson is thrilled to embark upon a stout 70-plus race schedule for the 2019 season.
The majority of the races, including all scheduled 410ci winged and non-wing sprint car races, will be in the familiar Shawn and Cyndi Thomas owned No. 68. It marks the fifth season Johnson has driven for Thomas Family Racing.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity that Shawn and Cyndi continue to provide and I’m really looking forward to what this year entails,” Johnson said. “We’ll start out and do the majority of the World of Outlaws races on the West Coast. Then we’ll go into our King of the West-NARC schedule. Outside of that we’ll do a handful of trips to the Midwest with our primary focus being racing at Knoxville Raceway.”
Johnson will make several visits to compete at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, prior to the Knoxville Nationals in August. His other priority will be competing full time for the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series championship.
“It’s definitely going to help us out a lot racing such a competitive schedule,” he said. “Doing the trips to run Knoxville will help come Knoxville Nationals time. Doing the KWS-NARC stuff will make us better. I’m looking forward to going after the championship. I feel strong going into this year. We had some really good runs last year and we were consistent. A couple of DNFs hurt us in points, but I think if we eliminate those we’ll be in the hunt for a championship.”
Johnson placed a career best fourth in the championship standings last year.
The team will also take the wings off to compete in the USAC/CRA California Sprint Week as well as the famed Oval Nationals.
“For 2019 I think we have a competitive package in both winged and traditional sprint cars and we will try to put nights together to win main events in both categories,” Shawn Thomas said. “Making main events at big shows will continue to be a goal as well as to continue to grow this team to be a threat to win anywhere we unload.”
Additionally, Tyler Silva will return as a key member of the crew.
“Last year was a season full of trying stuff out and learning a lot as a team,” he said. “Going into 2019 we have a lot of the kinks worked out and should be better than ever. We were so close too many times last year to not grab some wins this year. I’m most excited for the Knoxville races we will be doing prior to the Nationals because we will have a lot more knowledge going into the Nationals than we did last year.”
Johnson will fill in his schedule with approximately 15 races in his No. 24 winged sprint car and 15 midget events with Morris Motorsports.
