Wood Headed to Cocopah Speedway This Weekend to Start Season

Inside Line Promotions – AUBURN, Calif. (Feb. 24, 2014) – With an ambitious schedule on tap, Cole Wood will start his sprint car season this weekend at Cocopah Speedway in Somerton, Ariz.

The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s season-opening event on Friday and Saturday will be the first two of a variety of big races that Wood is ready to tackle during his busy season and it couldn’t start at a better place.

“I just watched the races (of last year from Cocopah Speedway) last night,” he said. “I think we had a good car. We had a lot of speed. I think we can be really good down there.”

Wood raced at the 3/8-mile track four times last season for the Cocopah Cup Challenge, which will start this year with a live video broadcast via Pay-Per-View from RacinBoys. To watch all of the action, visit http://www.RacinBoys.com.

“Honestly, the key is you have to watch that place,” he said. “The heat races will typically be around the top. As the top gets pushed up the track starts to get slick and people move down the it. I think the key to running fast is to watch the track and to watch the people around you.”

After the event at Cocopah Speedway, Wood is scheduled to compete with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nev. (March 5-6) and at Tucson International Raceway in Tucson, Ariz. (March 8) before relocating to Missouri.

“This year we’re going to do a pick-and-choose schedule,” he said. “We got an opportunity to points race last year. It was fun. Our goals for this season are to improve on last year. This year we want to go out and make a name for ourselves, win a couple of shows and be a contender up front.”
