Fuller Outruns Can-Am Field for Third Win of 2024

Victims Assistance Center of Jefferson County and a full crowd were on hand as the Golden Jubilee Season continued this past Friday night at the Can-Am Speedway. There was plenty of excitement in all five classes which included a first time winner.

The Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman 12 lap feature took to the speedway first and Camdin Cook looked to have the race well in hand, leading early on over Anthony Brownell and Logan Brown. These three drivers put on a great show for the top spot but Logan Brown was determined to get to the top spot. Brown got to second on lap 7 and ran down the race leader. On the final lap Brown made his move to the inside lane, taking away the lead into turn three. Off turn four, the crowd cheered as Logan Brown made the pass for the win, holding off Camdin Cook by a car length for his 4th win in 5 races in 2024. Brady Howard finished up 3rd with Anthony Brownell and Gage Howard the top 5.

Tucker Donath was the early pace setter in the 15 lap Panther Frameworx Crate Sprints. Donath held a comfortable lead in the early laps with Andrew Hennessy and defending track champion Josh Verne Jr. right there to challenge. As the laps clicked off, Hennessy and Verne closed the gap quickly making it a three way battle for the top spot. On lap 10 Andrew Hennessy made it three wide to take over the top spot with Verne charging to second and Donath falling to third. Over the final laps Andrew Hennessy would go unchallenged to score his second win in a row. Josh Verne Jr. crossed in second with Tucker Donath, Ken Klinkowski and George Sanford the top 5.

Next up was the Whitesboro Plowshop DIRTCar 358 Modifieds and Nick Webb took over the lead early on over Tyler Meeks, Franklin Mackin, Brian Hudson and Remington Hamm. Webb had a strong car and was able to keep Meeks and Hudson at bay as the field got into single file formation, making it difficult to pass. Tim Fuller started to pass race cars and passed many, coming from 12th on the grid. Fuller would break into the top 5 by lap 14 then set sail after the top 3, getting by Franklin Mackin for third. On lap 17 Fuller would chase down and pass Brian Hudson for second, then run down Nick Webb. On lap 19 Fuller would make his move on the top side to take over the lead and pull away from the field. It appeared he was on his way to another win until lap 23 when Cameron Black slowed on the front stretch and the yellow flew. One lap later a caution flew for a three-car jingle involving Lance Willix, Derek Webb and Lucas Fuller. With a one lap shootout to the checkered flag Billy Dunn made his way to the front quickly and was looking for his second win of the year. On the final restart Tim Fuller would go unchallenged to grab his third win of the year, with Dunn crossing the line in second. Brian Hudson had a career night finishing third with Tyler Meeks and Nick Webb completing the top 5.

Taylor Doxtator has won in almost every class he competed in except the Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTCar Sportsman. He was looking to change that as he took the lead on lap 3 of the 20 lap event from Jonathan Murphy, with Owen Nier, Jessica Power and Eric Nier completing the top 5. Doxtator had a fast race car and was looking good as he searched for his first win. Behind him Jessica Power would battle Jonathan Murphy, eventually getting by for the second spot as Mike Fowler Tyler Corcoran and Gavin Eisele were on the charge to the front also. With 5 laps to go Doxtator remained in control but Mike Fowler was on the move as he got by Jessica Power for the runner up spot and tried hard to run down the race leader. On the final lap Fowler tried one more move on the bottom off turn four, but on this night, Taylor Doxtator would hold on for the biggest win of his career, taking his first checkered flag in the Sportsman ranks. Fowler crossed in second over Jessica Power, Tyler Corcoran and Gavin Eisele.

The night finished up with a 15 lap Sundance Leisure Thundercar feature and the first yellow flew on lap one as OJ White spun in turn four. On the restart, Tony Frezzo and Jared Gilson battled hard for the top spot with Justin Pope charging to third. On lap 3 Pope would take command of the race and begin to run away from a quality field. By the halfway point Pope built up a strong lead as Anthony St. Mary Jr. began to charge forward moving to second with 4 laps to go. As the laps clicked off Justin Pope would not be denied as he put the bad luck behind him to score the win. Anthony St. Mary Jr. was in line for a runner up finish until he slid wide in turn 4, allowing Tony Frezzo, Francis White, Jared Gilson and Damien Bechler to all get by and round out the top 5 with St. Mary crossing in the 6th spot.

Next week the Mechanics get some time in the spotlight with a Pit Crew Showdown plus a Mechanics race and a full card of racing in all five classes with the green flag flying at 7pm.
