Haily Brownell
First Night on the Big Track.
How Exciting!!! Haily Brownell's first race on the "Big" track was tonight at Can-Am Speedway in Lafargeville NY. A little wave of nerves can be felt in the pit of Haily Brownell Racing. Haily is feeling confident she can get through this evening without getting lapped. Haily says "My goal tonight is to not get lapped, to smash or get smashed into the wall."
Haily pulled the lowest number for starting lineup, which puts her in the pole position. With only having 1 practice on the track a few days before, Haily decided to start at the back on the line and go from there." I'm just getting started. I am new at this and I feel more comfortable starting at the rear" Haily said as she hopped into her drivers seat for the first line up of the season.
It took sometime for Haily to get comfortable. During hot laps Haily was feeling things out and took it slow. Haily's speed wasnt the greatest, but she played it smart with this rookie move. In her heat race, Haily did increase her speed and managed to avoid mishaps of other drivers. "I don't want to crash my first night. I just want to get the feel of the track and take my time and play it smart." commented Haily as she rolled off the track. The feature was more exciting as Haily dodged spinouts from other racers. Haily also had a spinout of her own. Haily did express that her spinout was not her fault. "One minute I was putting along and the next I was like, where did that car come from." She says, "Its all good as we are all learning this together."
Haily finished 7th out of 8 enteries. Haily's father, Skeeter, a pit crew member says "We are happy with Haily's performance tonight. She did exactly what she was supposed to do. She did an awesome job."
