Six Divisions Set to Open Can Am Speedway Friday Night

By Tim Baltz

The 2023 season at The Nasty Track of the North is just about set to take the green flag and all six divisions will be in action Friday night.

Whitesboro Plow Shop will return as title sponsor of the DIRTCar 358 Modified division and Tim Fuller has been the driver to beat the last two seasons. The champion from 2021 and 2022, will look for his third straight and is already off to a strong start with a $12,000 payday at the Fonda Speedway last Saturday. Drivers such as Ryan Bartlett, Jordan McCreadie, Lance Willix and Derek Webb will be among the heavy favorites for this year's crown.

Bob Johnson Auto Group is back again and supporting the DIRTCar Sportsman division with all eyes on Tyler Corcoran, who bids for a fourth straight title. The Central Square native won the season finale a year ago and held off title rival Mike Fowler by a single point to claim the track title. Fowler will once again be looking to claim his first track championship and his first win in over a year at Can Am.

The DIRTCar Pro stock division will return to the speedway and with reigning track champion Bruno Richard moving on to the Crate Sprint Car division, this leaves the division wide open for many veterans and young stars, to become champion.

Panther Frameworx is back this year to sponsor the popular Crate Sprint Car division as Josh Verne Jr. looks to defend his championship and many more drivers are expected weekly. Also Donath Motorworx is continuing its support of the Limited Sportsman class, for drivers looking to advance their career coming from go kart ranks and other divisions in racing.

The ThunderCar division will see a new sponsor for 2023. Can Am Speedway staff and management welcome the good people at Sundance Leisure, who have signed on to sponsor one of the most popular divisions at Can Am. Joe Orvis won the championship last year with a dominant season.

Pit gates will open at 4pm with spectator gates opening for the first time in 2023 at 5pm. Cars will be on track for the very first time for hot laps at 6:20pm followed by opening ceremonies featuring Miss Adirondak and Miss Thousand Islands. The first green flag of the year will be flown by chief starter Mike LeClair at 7pm.
