Sheppard lands a trio of top-10's in Lucas Oil Knoxville Nationals
Aboard his Sheppard Riggs Racing No. B5 Late Model, Brandon Sheppard made the short trip to Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) on Tuesday for the annual One for the Road.
Drawing 31 Castrol FloRacing Night in America entries for the eighth stop of the tour, Sheppard backed up the third-fastest qualifying effort in his time trial group with a second-place finish in his heat. With a $23,023 top prize on the line in the feature, Brandon lost one spot in the 50-lap affair to register a seventh-place finish.
Returning to the driver’s seat of the Longhorn Chassis Rumley Engineering developmental car on Thursday, Brandon was one of 40 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) competitors entered at Knoxville Raceway (Knoxville, Iowa) for the 19th running of the Lucas Oil Knoxville Nationals. Moving forward in the feature after a runner-up heat finish placed him on the sixth row, Sheppard gained three spots to finish ninth.
For another $7,000-to-win preliminary feature on Friday, Sheppard clocked in 11th-fastest in his group before placing first in his heat. Rolling off 18th for the A-Main, Brandon passed 10 cars to score an eighth-place finish.
Locked into the 11th-starting position for Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win Knoxville Nationals finale via preliminary results the previous nights, Brandon improved one spot in the 80-lapper to cap off his week with a 10th-place finish, his fourth top-10 of the week.
