Fourth-place finish in Dome finale in St. Louis

Brandon Sheppard traveled to The Dome at America’s Center (St. Louis, Mo.) on Thursday afternoon to pilot the Donny Schatz-owned No. 15 Late Model for the fifth edition of the Gateway Dirt Nationals. With the 80-car field divided into two groups over a two-day span, Sheppard topped his time trial group before scoring a heat race win. Rolling off fifth for the $5,000-to-win preliminary feature, Brandon was collected in a tangle near the midway point of the 25-lapper that resulted in an early exit.

Locked into the 13th-starting position for the $30,000-to-win Gateway Dirt Nationals finale, Sheppard weaved his way through lapped traffic to reel in a fourth-place finish. He followed Tyler Carpenter, Tanner English, and Nick Hoffman to the checkers with Bob Gardner coming in fifth.
