Tough Opening Trip For Destiny Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA: The 2014 season opening trip to Ocala, FL and Barberville, FL didn’t go exactly as Destiny Motorsports, and Jac Haudenschild had hoped, as the team showed speed at times, but struggled to close out the week.

“The boys have really been working hard to get our issues resolved, and hopefully we can get going in the right direction soon,’ Haudenschild said.

Kicking off the season last Sunday night at a very wet and soggy Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL, Haudneschild timed his MonDak Portables/Rick Rogers Construction/Benic Enterprises entry in 17th fastest, putting himself on the pole for his heat race.

When the green lights flickered on in the heat, the Wooster, OH driver was flawless as he tiptoed around the extremely greasy track, but was able to pick up the win.

Lining up 15th in the feature event, Haudenschild worked his way up to the top-10 on a track that forced drivers to use a ton of tear offs.

At the halfway point, Haudenschild lost the handle trying to pass for position, and spun his mud-covered entry out, putting him in the back. He would however rebound to an 11th place finish.

Back at the Bubba Raceway Park on Monday night, ‘The Wild Child’ timed in fourth fastest, and with less than 24 cars, the All Star Circuit of Champions uses a four-car inversion for heat races, thus putting Haudenschild in the second row of his heat.

Starting third in his heat, Haudenschld threw a text-book slide-job on David Gravel to take the second spot, where he would finish, and earn a berth into the night’s Dash.

Finding himself with the four-pill, Haud lined up the second row of the Dash, and was able to make some moves and work into the second spot, putting him on the front row of the feature event, alongside Kerry Madsen.

When the race went green, Haud and Madsen got together, but avoided disaster, and raced off, with Haud in the second spot.

Running the high, scary-side, of the speedway, Haud and his Renegade Rentals/Champion Lubricants/Triple X backed machine, reeled in the checked out Madsen, and made a race of it at the front of the pack.

Getting the advantage coming down the straight-a-way on the 10th lap, Haud was forced to lift in lapped traffic giving the lead back to Madsen, but not letting him out of his sights.

On the 13th lap, disaster struck, as Haudenschild got into the wall getting into turn three, and getting his machine upside down, ending his night.

Heading to the Volusia Speedway for a final night with the All Stars, and three nights with the World of Outlaws, Haudenschild and his Destiny Motorsports team struggled to get speed out of the car, and to get Haud comfortable in it.

When the weekend finally came to a close, it was a disappointing one for the team as they failed to make two of the feature events, and struggled in Sunday’s feature.

“It is disappointing to struggle like we did, after having an extremely fast racecar on Monday night in Ocala, FL,” Haud said. “They are two very different places, but we were hoping to be a little more competitive. The guys have worked hard trying to figure this out, and hopefully we can get it right for East Bay. I have to thank Rick and Barb Rogers a lot for giving me this chance.”

Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Rick Rogers Construction, Benic Enterprises, Renegade Rentals, Champion Lubricants, Triple X Race Products, GME Mfg, Keizer Wheels, Kistler Racing Engines, Boss Signs and Graphics, Simpson, Tony Stewart Racing, DMI, Red Devil Brakes, Afco Shocks, and ButlerBuilt for their support for the 2014 season.

ON TAP: Haudenschild and the Destiny Motorsports team will be in action on Thursday night at the East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL.
