Robards paces RS12 Motorsports in Spartan Transportation Outlaw Winged Nationals at Doe Run
RS12 Motorsports took on the inaugural Spartan Transportation Outlaw Winged Nationals at Doe Run Raceway (Doe Run, Missouri) on Friday and Saturday with a stout four-driver lineup.
RS12 mainstay Harrison Robards competed in both the Outlaw Winged Micros and Restricted Winged Micros programs as part of the mega event. With 50 Outlaw Winged competitors in the pits on Friday at the 1/6-mile track, Friday’s field was split into two groups competing for a spot in one of two $1,000-to-win qualifiers. The top two finishers were also locked into Saturday’s $5,000-to-win feature.
Robards finished fourth in his heat race in his No. 12R Outlaw Winged Micro on Friday and started 14th in his 25-lap A-Main. He picked up positions early, but lost power and registered a 20th-place result.
On Saturday, Robards made his presence known among the 51 Outlaw Winged Micros at Doe Run. With the engine down in his regular car, he got behind the wheel of a competitor's ride without the power steering to which he is accustomed. Still, he finished second in his heat after leading almost the entirety of the race, then used a third-place B-Feature finish to transfer to the 30-lap A-Main. He started 19th and ended up 22nd in the weekend’s main event.
On the Restricted Winged Micros side, Robards drove his No. 11H to sixth in his heat on Friday, putting him 12th on the grid for the night’s 12-lap, $500-to-win feature race. He picked up four spots and came home eighth out of 15 entrants.
The following evening, Robards was one of 16 Restricted Micro drivers looking for a $1,500 first-place payday. He drove from eighth to fifth in his heat race and started eighth in the 15-lap A-Main. He brought home an 11th-place result.
RS12 Motorsports newcomer JR Henson also turned in a solid weekend in his No. 10J Outlaw Winged Micro. On Friday, Henson finished eighth in his heat race and used a fourth-place B-Main result to start 19th in his 25-lap A-Main. He moved forward two spots and finished 17th.
Saturday saw Henson take fifth in his heat and 14th in the B-Main, putting him 10th on the grid for the winner-take-all Last Chance Race worth a transfer spot or $500. Henson finished fifth, but made it to the finale by virtue of a draw. Henson started 23rd in the 30-lapper and rounded out the night in the same position.
Matt Bagby meanwhile drove the RS12 Motorsports No. 42 Outlaw Winged Micro over the weekend. On Friday, he finished seventh in his heat race and 10th in his B-Main, precluding him from advancing to one of the night’s features. The following evening, he finished eighth in his heat and sixth in the D-Feature, putting him in the Last Chance Race. He claimed the ninth spot, ending his weekend short of the night’s finale.
Brian Rieck rounded out the RS12 quartet in the No. 12X Outlaw Winged Micro. Friday saw Rieck finish ninth in his heat and seventh in his B-Main, meaning he came up short of participating in one of the night’s A-Main qualifiers. On Saturday, Rieck took ninth in his heat race and fifth in the D-Feature. He claimed the 10th spot in the Last Chance Race, bringing his racing weekend to a close.
