Scott Winters - 2011 Season Preview
(Kole Faragher) May 4, 2011 – The 2010 season ended on a roll for Butterfield, Minn. driver Scott Winters. The Winters Motorsports 23w team reeled off three straight victories before the end of the season, including one of Winters’ biggest and most memorable wins of his career at the Jerry Richert Memorial at Cedar Lake Speedway in September.
The race was won over Mark Dobmeier and a host of other Midwest heavy hitters in a memorable race where numerous slide-jobs were swapped between the two. “At the end of last year we had everything clicking from the end of July, into the Nationals, and it finally cumulated with the three wins in a row,” Winters explained. “The race at Cedar Lake is one I will never forget.”
But with the burden of having to finance a family-owned sprint car team comes the shadow of doubt of which the future holds. The team went into the offseason not knowing if there would be a 2011 season after selling some inventory. The team will continue to run Schnee Chassis for the upcoming season as in past years. Official plans for the year are still up in the air, however.
“Right now, we’ll just kind of take it week-by-week and go from there,” Winters said. “We don’t plan on racing for points anywhere, and may not know where we are going to race until the end of the work week.”
The team will focus their efforts to the 410 side of things as they sold their 360 motor, along with last year’s car in the offseason. The plan currently is to hit roughly 20 shows throughout the year in the Upper Midwest. That includes area races with the World of Outlaws, All Star Circuit of Champions, and other local shows at a few area tracks.
Winters is actively seeking more sponsorship or other driving opportunities in order to get more racing in for either 360 or 410 shows.
“We would love to race as much as we have the last few years, but the costs of racing have continued to rise and we just can’t do as much as we want,” Winters stated. “We will welcome any sponsors if they want to join our team for the upcoming season.”

Blast from the Past
It was last week back in 2007 that Winters turned some heads to open the season at Knoxville Raceway on April 21. After winning the ‘B’ in the Carnahan Motorsports R19, he stormed from his 19th starting position to finish on the podium in 3rd behind winner Brian Brown and Ricky Logan. The charge continues to be his best career finish at the historic half-mile in a 410.
