Coker Races Midget for First Time in 10 Years, Wins First Race!

Here at Chris Coker Racing, we would like to wish everyone Happy Holidays. I hope every body had a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving weekend. Here in the racing world we had neither, but we had loads of fun!!! After eating just the right amount on Thursday, Chris jumped on a plane and headed to Phoenix for the Southwest Championship to drive the Young Racing, number 1AZ midget.

Although Chris hadn't been in a midget in over 10 years, he was able to edge out two time AMRA Champion, RJ Johnson (pictured above) to win his first heat race! In the feature he would start second, next to USAC champion Brad Loyet. Following some uncalled for contact from his fellow front runner Chris found himself on the wrong end of a freight train. As Chris battled his way back to the front he was hit by a slower car cutting to the infield, breaking the right rear shock tower. Chris hung on for a few more laps to ultimately finish in 8th place.

"It was great to get the chance to race guys of this caliber before the Chili Bowl in January. Loyet and R.J. are as good as it comes. That new Fontana engine is a MONSTER! I really think we'll have something for them when we get to Tulsa, and it's exciting. We've been fighting the setup in the Sprint Car all season, but with the Adam Young (2 time AMRA Champion) and Jeff Perry (2008 AMRA Champion) on the midget team, I don't have to hesitate going into the first turn, I know it's going to work." - Chris Coker
