Inside Line Promotions – ELDON, Mo. (May 28, 2019) – Roger Crockett exited a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader at Lake Ozark Speedway with the lead in the championship standings.

Crockett captured a runner-up result on Saturday and a ninth-place finish on Sunday, giving him a series-leading five top 10s in six races this season.

“Our car is capable of being on the podium every night,” he said. “That’s a huge boost from where we’d been. It’s great to be in the points lead. If you had told me last year that heading into Speedweek this year we’d be in the hunt of the point deal I would have been surprised.”

The event started on Saturday with Crockett winning a heat race after lining up on the outside of the front row. That garnered a spot into the feature redraw and Crockett pulled the No. 3 to start the main event on the inside of the second row.

“We drew a good number and started on the outside of the front row in a heat race and won the heat,” he said. “For the feature we had the car pretty good. There were a couple of changes that didn’t get made that we should have made, but we were rolling pretty good early in the race.

“We were racing hard with Matt Covington and got together. It was hard racing for position and just a racing deal. We got a hole in the right rear tire. The tire started going down a little bit and our car got way better. The air pressure got down somewhere around six and a half pounds of air. We were able to get into second and we were tracking down Sam (Hafertepe Jr.). There was a yellow and I took off really good on the restart and felt like I could pass him. Then there was a red with three laps to go. Our tire went down to next to nothing. We were extremely lucky to finish. It’s the roller coaster of racing. Our car got really, really good and the next thing you know we’re lucky to finish the race.”

Crockett’s second-place finish was his best result of the season and third top five.

The weekend concluded on Sunday with Crockett advancing from fourth to third place in a heat race. That ranked 14th in overall points and lined him up on the outside of the seventh row for the A Main.

“I drew pretty good and started fourth in the heat, but we made a bad decision and made a setup change,” he said. “The car was not good in the heat. I felt like it shouldn’t have been a tall order to get to second. When you don’t make that happen you start deep in the field.

“We got a good start in the main event, but I couldn’t seem to catch a break. We’d get by a guy and a caution would come out. The race didn’t pan out how I needed to.”

Crockett capped the night with a ninth-place result.

Next up is the start of the ASCS National Tour’s Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek, which begins Saturday at Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas.
