Inside Line Promotions – SEDALIA, Mo. (Aug. 24, 2016) – Josh Baughman recorded a pair of podium finishes last weekend in Missouri with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
That gives him six podiums in his last seven 360ci sprint car races.
“It’s not very often that we get bummed about podiums, but I feel like we should have won a lot of races we’ve been on the podium,” he said. “I feel like we should have more wins. We’ve been really good and on the podium just about every time we’ve been on the track the last month and a half. For some reason we can’t get a win. On a positive note we used to just try to make the A Main and now we’re racing as good as we are and for podiums.”
Baughman was in contention to win both races last weekend, which began on Saturday at St. Francois County Raceway in Farmington, Mo. Baughman advanced from third to second place in a heat race to make the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 1 to start on the pole.
“The race was won on the first start,” he said. “Sam (Hafertepe Jr.) got me on the start and drove a good race and held us off. It was pretty one lane. A local guy was pretty fast and he got me at the end for second.”
Baughman posted a third-place finish.
He then ventured to Missouri State Fair Speedway on Sunday for the High Roller Classic. Baughman maneuvered from seventh to fourth place in a heat race to qualify for the feature redraw. This time he pulled the No. 2 to start the main event on the outside of the front row.
“It took me a while to get in rhythm,” he said. “Sam got me on the start and (Brian) Brown got him. I think we fell to sixth or seventh by the midpoint of the race and had to work our way up there to finish where we did. I feel like if we had a little more time we might have had something for Brown.”
Baughman used a late charge to rally for a runner-up result.
He will take this weekend off before racing Sept. 2-4 at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., for the AGCO Jackson Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour and the National Sprint League.
