The Faribault County Fair in Blue Earth Minnesota kicked off with some hot racing at the Golden Spike Speedway in a special Tuesday night event. Twelve box stock drivers signed in from Iowa, Minnesota, and South Dakota to battle for the win awarding cash thanks to several generous sponsors.

The heat races started the night with great action setting up a spectacular feature event. Heat one went to Hunter Hanson from the outside of the front row. Heat two saw Kaecyn Jones hold off challenges from the top four as they raced within a second the entire event. KC Sparks fell out of this event when his chain broke and dropped him from his fourth running position early on.

The second flight of heat races had Kinzlee Giessinger from South Dakota take advantage of her pole starting position to take the heat win over Florence Drost. The final heat had Taver West move from third starting position to overtake pole starter Sparks for the win.

The feature event lined up with Hanson and Drost on the front row. At the drop of the green, the action was fierce. Hanson led the group in to turn one with West diving to the inside of Drost from his third starting position. As the lead trio crossed to complete the opening lap, Drost and West went three wide with Hanson and Drost leading the opening circuit and West claiming second as they motored into turn one.

Sparks had started 11th on the field due to the DNF in a heat race and quickly moved past three karts on the opening circuit.

West moved ahead of Drost going into turn three while the top three lined up single file while the pack behind them was jostling for position. Coming to the line for lap two, Kaecyn Jones, Tommy Tanner, took Giessinger three wide for the fourth position behind Hanson.

Giessinger held off the challenges at the time while Sparks used the battle just ahead of him to pull alongside Wyatt Schutte down the backstretch and take that position as well as nosing ahead of Jones to conclude lap three.

The field spread out just a bit with Sparks chasing down Tanner who was still working on Giessinger for fourth. Sparks dove under Tanner going into turn one and held the low line enough that Tanner’s cross over move didn’t work but allowed Jones to challenge back to the inside and reclaim Tanner’s position on the track.

Just five laps in and West had a comfortable lead over Drost who was being chased by Hanson. Heading into turn one for lap six. Sparks got a nose under the Giessinger kart which opened the door for Tanner to also move ahead. The next lap, Tanner started to show his nose to Sparks who was running in fourth, the last money paying position.

The next five laps saw great battle for second with Hanson and Drost racing side by side, nose to tail in very clean action. Meanwhile, Tanner and Sparks continued to swap the fourth position in the running order.

The race was slowed once when Oliver Sackett got upside down in turn three and retired from the race. That forced a restart with the field nose to tail with West out front, Drost, Hanson, Tanner, and Sparks as the top five.

The action didn’t slow as Hanson moved to the inside of Drost on the restart with Tanner following in his tracks. Sparks moved a lane lower down the front stretch and moved ahead of Tanner into fourth. Sparks charged the third turn under Hanson on the next lap to take third while Jones moved around Tanner for fifth. Sparks gained on Drost but ran out of laps as the checkered flag dropped.

West claimed the Fair Race Victory with Drost in second, Sparks third and Hanson fourth all taking home some cash for their efforts thanks to the great sponsors. Tanner made a last corner move on Jones to take fifth with Jones sixth followed by Schutte, Giessinger, Brogan Carder, Andrew Christenson, and Hailee Reutzel.
