Covington 4th at Lawton

PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking in two night’s of action over the weekend, Matt Covington’s fourth place finish at the Lawton Speedway on Saturday night was the highlight.

Picking the front row through his heat race draw on Saturday night, Covington took advantage of the rare starting spot, and picked up the heat-race win, putting his T&L Foundry/Triple X/Winters backed machine in the night’s top-eight redraw.

Pulling the three pill for the feature, Matt lined up inside the second row, but with track conditions the way they were, the outside was easily the preferred position.

When the green flag waived, the field went after the high-side of the speedway, and when Covington got in line, he slipped back to the fifth spot.

Running fifth with the lead pack with just a handful of laps to go, Covington remained committed to the cushion, and was able to sneak into the fourth spot.

Attempting a slider with just three laps remaining, Covington slid into the third spot, but his momentum took him over the cushion, and he slipped back to fifth.

On the last lap, the Glenpool, OK driver was able to take the fourth spot, where he would finish.

On Friday night, at the Creek Country Speedway, Covington’s draw put him in the back of his heat, and his machine was too tight to move forward, and he was forced to make his way into the night’s B-Main event.

A second place finish in the B put Covington into the feature event, but he started in the 18th spot aboard his C.G. Martin Co./Factor 1 Racing/All Star Performance machine

Doing what he could from the back, Covington sliced, and diced his way towards the top-ten, and he settled with an 11th place finish.

“On Friday night, we just got behind the eight ball with our pill-draw,” he said. “We struggled in our heat, and started basically last in the main, was tough to make up any ground. On Saturday we had a really strong car, but the way the track was, really made it tough to gain any spots.

Matt and his Covington Racing team would like to thank T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, Winters, Brodix, C.G. Martin Company, Factor 1 Racing, All-Star Performance, Outlaw Wings, Pro Shocks, DMI Components, Keizer Wheels, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, GME Steering, Wesmar Racing Engines, and Schoenfeld Headers for their support in 2013.

2013 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-25, Wins-1, Top 5’s-10, Top 10’s-15

ON TAP: Covington will be in action for a pair of events this weekend as he will be at the Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night, before heading to the Double X Speedway on Sunday.
