Scotty Thiel third in Wisconsin State Championship; Team 73 concludes 2023 agenda

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (October 3, 2023) - The “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel and Team 73 did their best to go out with a bang Saturday night at the Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wisconsin, and accomplishing that feat was nearly the case, eventually concluding the IRA Outlaw Sprint Series’ sixth annual Wisconsin State Sprint Car Championship with a podium finish. Thiel, a recent two-time winner with the Wisconsin-based organization, finished third in his final IRA attempt of the season, advancing three spots after starting sixth on the grid.

A heat race victory early on in the program set the tone for the rest of his evening.

In addition, Thiel entered the 360 sprint car portion of the Wisconsin State Championship, wheeling Sippel Racing’s familiar No. 39S to a victory. The Sheboygan native started ninth for the 25-lapper.

Although a casual competitor with the IRA in 2023 (due in part to his early season commitments to the All Star Circuit of Champions), Big Wheel still managed to rack up eight top-ten appearances in 12 feature attempts, six of those top-tens resulting within the top five, also acquiring the aforementioned pair of victories: one at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and the second at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin.

“A great way to cap the season with Team 73. We have some toter and trailer work to accomplish, so we’ll turn our focus toward that and be ready to go for next season,” Thiel, ace of the Gibbsville Cheese, Walker’s Game Ear, Professional Plating, Scott Thiel Builders, Stealth Cam, Muddy Outdoors, Complete Water Inc, GRP Motorsports, Hepfner Racing Products, Triple-X Chassis, Keizer Wheels, No. 73 sprint car, stated. “There’s still some things up in the air for this year. Pending some details, I may have the opportunity to drive for another team in upcoming events, but nothing has been ironed out just yet.

“The second half of the season was kinda rushed in some respect, but a big thanks to all of our partners who stuck with us and made it possible,” Thiel added. “We found some success late in the year, but it’s better late than never. Showing this kind of speed late in the season is a great momentum kick for next year. I’m confident big things are ahead.”
