Thiel continues WoO top-ten streak with seventh-place finish at Wilmot; Knoxville double duty on deck
By Fully Injected Motorsports:
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (July 11, 2022) - Scotty Thiel and Team 73 did it again, notching their third consecutive World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series top-ten appearance with a seventh-place score at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wisconsin, on Saturday, July 9, maintaining their place within the top-ten after starting from the pole position.
In fact, the entire evening was a complete success for the nearby Sheboygan, Wisconsin-based open wheel team, kicking-off the Badger 40 program with the third-fastest time during qualifying time trials, driving on to finish second in their respective heat race. Thiel would go on to win the evening’s dash; a first-ever feat for the two-time IRA winner in 2022. Unfortunately, a feature adjustment miscue would lead to Thiel’s reverse finish.
The “Big Wheel” kicked-off his World of Outlaws top-ten streak with eighth and sixth-place finishes, respectively, in Cedar Lake Speedway’s Independence Day Spectacular.
“I wish we could have held on…especially after starting from the pole,” Thiel explained, driver of the Gibbsville Cheese, Walkers Game Ear, Professional Plating Inc, Scott Thiel Builders, Stealth Cam, Muddy Outdoors, Complete Water Inc, KSI Supply, GRP Motorsports, Racers Hall, Triple X Chassis, No. 73 sprint car. “Hats off to this entire team. We did our best to represent our Wisconsin fans proudly and I think we did just that. Having three straight top-ten finishes with the best in the world will do wonders for our confidence, especially rolling into Knoxville this weekend. It’s all about Nationals prep now.”
ON DECK:
The “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel and Team 73 will continue their 2022 campaign with a visit to the famed Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday, July 16. In addition, Thiel will pilot the Tostenson Racing/GRP Motorsports No. 36 360 sprint car in starts at Jackson Motorplex on Friday, July 15, and Knoxville Raceway on Saturday, July 16.
