Thiel Conquers Corn Fest Victory

A grueling week at the Knoxville Nationals brought the Scott Thiel Motorsports team back to their home state to run a pair of races this past weekend with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car Series. The first stop happened on Saturday night at the Wilmot Raceway for the annual Roger Iles Memorial event at the Kenosha County Fair. Thiel would go on to have a solid top five performance before heading west to the historic Angell Park Speedway on Sunday for the annual CornFest event. Scotty would go on to victory lane, earning his sixth feature win for the season and second consecutive CornFest victory!

31 cars signed into Wilmot Raceway on Saturday night. Scotty was the fifth car out for qualifying and after putting down a 13.222 lap time that was Quick Time on the night! He would go on to start fourth in the heat race event and charged his way to a second place finish by a very narrow margin. He would struggle during the redraw and pull the tenth starting position. The 36 lap event would showcase several cautions that would help get the field bunched back up and help Thiel make forward progress. As the checkered flag flew, Scotty would sneak by and steal away a fourth place finish by seven one thousandths of a second. “We started the night off well with quick time. I was happy with that but it was a struggle starting tenth tonight. The track got pretty wide and the passing was difficult. We made our way to a top five which we can’t hang our head on.” Thiel mentioned after the show.

Sunday evening brought the STM team to the historic Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI for the annual Corn Fest event. 23 cars signed into the pits. Scotty went out 15th in the qualifying order and would hold on to third quick for the evening. After starting in the fourth position in the heat race, he would again take home a second place finish. This time the pill draw was a little better as he pulled out the fifth starting position. The field went to green flag action for the 30 lap main event. Thiel began his charge forward early on in the race. He made his way into the second position just before half way and would capitalize on a restart just past the half way marker and take over the lead. He held the lead until two laps to go and fell back to second after struggling with some lap traffic but quickly would take the lead back off of turn two. He never looked back and would take home the win! That win was his second win at Angell Park this season and his second consecutive CornFest victory! “Man, I was happy to hold onto that one. We were going pretty good early on and was able to get into the lead after the half way point. I got caught up in traffic right at the end and the car got really tight on me. I thought something broke for a second. He got past me there but we were able to snag that back off of two. Just happy to get a win tonight for my guys. They’ve been working hard to get us going better and it paid off tonight. Thanks to all our great partners who support us!” Thiel said after the main event.

Next on tap for the STM team is this coming Saturday night at the Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE).
