Minnesota Missile Monday: Still Fighting For a Podium at Newton

Minnesota Missile Monday: Still Fighting For a Podium at Newton
Newton Kart Klub, Newton, IA
June 21, 2021

The largest field at Newton Kart Klub saw 19 drivers sign in for the box stock division. In the twenty lap feature, Wyatt Miller and Carson Berglund set the pace with 18 karts taking the green. Coming around to complete lap one, Miller had the edge over Berglund, but not everyone was able to make it through the three and four turns bringing out a caution and forcing a complete restart.

On the restart, Berglund jumped to the lead with Miller tailing his 7B machine. Garret Warren settled into third with Cruz Dickerson in fourth. As the field worked the fourth lap, Dickerson hit an infield disc marker, upsetting his kart and causing him to spin and go to the tail for the restart.

When the green came back out, Berglund continued his lead over Miller. Aidan Leingang got a good start and moved past Warren going into turn one for third position. Down the back stretch, tenth starter, KC Sparks, moved to the inside of Mason Titus and Warren to take two positions and move into fourth.

Leingang continued his chase and drove to the inside of Miller overtaking second place. Miller did not let Leingang run away and when the duo came upon the lap kart of Kinzley Sly, Leingang made room and muscled his kart into a small gap to maintain the position .

While dealing with the lapped kart of Sly, Sparks closed in to make it a three kart battle. Leingang and Miller were able to move around Sly while Sparks had to fight off continued challenges from the lapped machine for two laps before clearing her but had lost a bunch of track position while Leingang and Miller pulled ahead.

Coming to the white flag, a group of karts tangled in turn four but the track remained under green as the leaders had taken the white and were racing around to the checkers. Berglund navigated the stalled karts and won his third feature of the season over Leingang and Miller. Sparks had to take evasive action as one of the karts involved pulled out of the infield into his racing lane and nearly destroyed both machines but his quick reflexes shot him up the track to cross the line in fourth with Landon Elliott rounding out the top five.
