Hunter, Copp, Farr Take Feature Wins, Audette, Moncriefs, Copp Take Season Championships

Lake of the Woods Speedway capped off the points season with Track Championship night on Friday.

Rain in the morning led to less than preferred track conditions, but races were completed before dark. A total of twenty-five cars in three classes competed.

It was a close battle in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks with Derek Pollock taking the points lead the week before over Michael Copp.. A mere five points (One victory) being the difference maker heading into the final night of points.

In the heat race, Copp was in full form charging from third to first to claim the nine car field. However, Pollock had charged from even further back from the seventh position to second. Luckily for Pollock, points are not awarded in the Heats.

In the feature, it didn't take long for Copp and Pollock being one and two at the front of the pack. Early on, Pollock tried the outside and could stay side by side with Copp, but he decided against it and started back underneath trying to find a way for Copp to be pushed up. Just over halfway through the race, Pollock tried to out-brake the leader coming into three and hoped that Copp would slid out of the line.

Side by side, Copp was unwilling to give Pollock any room. As a result, Pollock lost out and was only able to salvage a fourth place finish. Jaymie Weir finished a close second with Morgan McDonald in third.

With the victory, Copp claimed the 2020 WISSOTA Pure Stock Track Championship.

The only points battle that was determined before this evening's races were the 4-Cylinders. Hayley and Hilary Moncrief, in their first racing season, captured the points last weekend when team Audette was unable to field a car for the feature due to a mechanical issue in Hot Laps.

Alexander Farr started on the pole and claimed the win in the heat race. In the feature, Logan McDonald led the first ten laps until Farr came up from the fourth position and passed for the lead claiming a clean sweep. McDonald finished second with Hayley Moncrief finishing third.

The Q104 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds had 2019's Track Champion, Tom Morriseau gain a few points from last week to have a shot at making it back to back. However, all Nick Audette had to do was stay within two positions to claim the title.

In the heat race, Morriseau was able to get the win after starting third and passing Audette.

In the feature, Edward Bell started on the pole and was able to gain some space between the rest of the field. Lap after lap, Austin Hunter, who started fifth, began to reel in the leader. On lap twelve, Hunter was on the bumper of Bell with Morriseau not far behind them.

Having to deal with lap traffic, Hunter was able to find a lane under the lapped car and pull ahead in first.

With just two to go, Patrick Davis stopped on the frontstretch due to a flat. On the ensuing restart, Bell and Morriseau scrubbed side panels coming to the flagstand.

In the middle of turn three and four, Morriseau got into the back of Bell which resulted in a flat tire forcing him to retire early. Audette was able to get by Bell to finish second to the feature winner of Hunter.

Congratulations to #20 Nick Audette in the Q104 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, #18 Hilary/Hayley Moncrief in the 4-Cylinders, and #46 Michael Copp in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks for their 2020 Lake of the Woods Speedway Track Championships!
