Klinkner, Blocher, and Davis snag weekly racing series wins
A week after dealing out her second rain out of the season, Mother Nature tried her hardest to go for back-to-back wins at 81 Speedway, but with a smooth hardened track surface and a little bit of luck, John Allen and the FOE Enterprises crew were not to be denied on Saturday night. Billed as Kansas vs. Oklahoma for the URSS vs OCRS IMCA Sprint Cars, it was Danny Smith who took bragging rights back to Sand Springs, OK after the 25-lap featured event of the evening. Joining the sprint car division, the Two M Motorsports and Machine Rookie Modifieds, Heyglassman.com Stock Cars, and AutoTech Service Super Stocks each took their turn on the Park City, KS oval.
Brett Davis led the Two M Motorsports and Machine Rookie Modified feature early while Valley Center’s Chas Klinkner kept pressure on the young driver in the No. 65b. A turn-3 mishap saw Davis surrender his lead to Klinkner’s No. 11c, who then faced pressure from Dillon Moler over the second half of the event. On the last lap Moler got a big run off turn two and wrestled the lead away from Klinkner, who had to check up to avoid contact, while the pair hustled down the back straight away.
Determined not to be denied, Klinkner set his car to the extreme bottom side of the Speedway in turn 3 and slid up beside Moler’s No. 78d. Slight contact between the leaders saw both cars get out of shape while their drivers wrestled to maintain control. A drag race off the final corner to the finish line saw Klinkner pick up his first win of the year. Moler, Jim Roney, Ethan Hafner, and John Cohoon completed the top five. The hard charger on the night went to Chevy Coleman going plus 13 driving from 20th to 7th. The three heat race wins were pickup up by Hafner, Dakota Dale, and Cohoon.
HeyGlassman.com Stock Car action saw Cheney’s Beau Davis hold off a surging Scott Miller for the A-feature victory. Miller, who won the B-feature event, drove from 13th on the grid to his runner-up finish. George Ramey finished third, while Clint Smith and the night’s hard charger Scott Lehman, who started 17th, completed the top 5. Heat race wins went to Ramey, Mike Burian, Kenny Ziegler, and Chris Holle.
It was another “perfect” night for the No. 24b machine of David Blocher who picked up the lone AutoTech Service Super Stock heat race win then completed the main event sweep later in the evening. Afterwards, Blocher promptly became the nights un-sung hero donating half of his winnings to the Kansas Honor Flight Society in support of their fund-raising event throughout the evening. Son David Blocker made it a family 1-2 finish while Rod Northcutt, Mike McIlvain, and Ron Creech completed the top 5.
After an open practice session scheduled for this coming Thursday evening from 6-9 pm, racing action resumes on Saturday May 29th with the Alternative Pest Management USRA Modifieds, Chunky Poodle USRA B-Mods, Two M Motorsports & Machine Rookie Modifieds, Primal Beef Jerky Mini Stocks all in action. Adult General admission tickets for $12.00, Senior 65+ & Military $10.00, Children 10 & under are free. Gates open at 5 pm, racing starts at 7pm.
