“LARRY BURTON CLASSIC” UP NEXT FOR USAC WESTERN SPRINTERS

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (May 10, 2011) – The USAC Western Classic Racing Series heads to one of its most important pavement events on Saturday night, as a strong field of Sprint Cars will invade Roseville’s All American Speedway for the “Larry Burton Classic”.

The Larry Burton Classic will honor former racer and All American Speedway promoter Larry Burton, who was a multi-time track champion at West Capital Speedway and a Gold Cup winner before taking the reigns of All American. Burton oversaw the paving of the facility in the early 70s and also was a key figure in the success Rose Classic events during the 80s.

Race fans will get the opportunity to win a free Echo Leaf Blower courtesy of Citrus Heights Saw & Mower with another Echo Leaf Blower being offered to the fast-time qualifier during the evening.

Pre-race ceremonies will include the colors being presented by the Whitney High School ROTC color guard and exhibition races from area Quarter Midget racers on the front stretch.

23 year-old Scott Pierovich of Alamo, California leads the overall standings with one dirt race and one pavement race in the books, while six-time USAC champion Tony Hunt of Lincoln leads the way in the pavement series fresh off of his win at Madera in early April.

Pierovich and Hunt traded blows at Madera in a thrilling feature event. Hunt won the battle on that night with Pierovich falling out after mechanical problems.

While Pierovich seeks redemption at Roseville, Hunt will look to defend his home turf.

One of the hottest drivers in Northern California racing is Sebastapol’s Geoff Ensign. Ensign has parlayed a third place effort in his pavement debut at Madera to rank fourth in the overall standings. He also shares a piece of the points lead in the California Sprint Car Civil War Series. Ensign has will race in the Civil War event on Friday then chase the USAC victory on Saturday for owner Ted Finkenbinder.

Folsom’s Jerry Kobza is third in the series standings over Ensign and San Francisco’s Tim Barber. Pavement regulars such as 2010 series runner-up Luis Ramos III of Clovis, Western Speed entries from Cody Gerhardt and Tim Skoglund, and Alan Kaiser Racing’s Brian McClish are all expected to compete.

Fair Oaks’ Shauna Hogg has a strong showing in the early laps at Madera before falling to mechanical woes and will return at Roseville. Bill Logan, Gordon Rodgers, Audra Sasselli, Marvin Mitchell, and Don Emory are all expected as well.

Joining the USAC Western Classic Racing Series sprint cars on the bill will be USAC Ford Focus Midgets and Young Guns, NCMA Sprints, and Legends of the Pacific.

Grandstands open at 4:00 p.m. with racing to start at 6. Tickets are just $15 for adults, $12 for students/military/seniors, $10 for juniors ages 7-15, with kids 6 and under free! Ticket information is available by calling (916) 864-8722.
