Tanner Mullens
Pair of top-5 finishes for Mullens at Rocket Raceway Park
Tanner Mullens continued his early-season momentum with the Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) during the first weekend in March as he grabbed multiple impressive results in two $5,000-to-win shows.
On Friday, Mullens was one of 65 Modified combatants at the 3/8-mile Rocket Raceway Park in Petty, Texas, for the first night of the 14th annual USMTS Texas Spring Nationals. Mullens took second in his heat race and drove from 10th to fifth in the 40-lap feature. He chased Jack Sartain, Gary Christian, Terry Phillips and Dan Ebert across the start-finish line.
With 67 USMTS Modifieds in the pit area on Saturday, Mullens started the evening by finishing fifth in his heat. He went on to win his B-Main and rolled off 14th in the 50-lap finale. He marched steadily forward, and after running as high as second, ultimately took the checkered flag in the fourth spot behind Ebert, Kyle Brown and Jake Timm. Dereck Ramirez completed the top five.
Mullens has now claimed three consecutive top-five finishes and is fifth in the USMTS standings.
