Podium finish with Southern Nationals at Toccoa, finishes sixth in standings
Parker Martin returned with the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals on Tuesday afternoon at Toccoa Raceway (Toccoa, Ga.) for the $10,067-to-win program. (Rick Neff photos)
With 23 Late Models on the grounds, Martin followed the 10th-fastest qualifying lap with a third-place finish in his heat. Improving four spots in the 53-lap feature, Parker raced to a third-place finish. He followed Brandon Overton and Kenny Collins to the checkers with Cory Hedgecock and Cla Knight rounding out the Top-5.
On Thursday evening at Tri-County Racetrack (Brasstown, N.C.), Parker’s qualifying effort pinned him on the eighth row for the main event. With $7,553 on the line, Martin was running in 14th when a rain shower cut the 53-lapper short on lap 27.
After Friday’s scheduled event at Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Ga.) fell to Mother Nature, Martin headed to Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) on Saturday to wrap up the 12-race tour with the Ray Varner Ford 53. Starting the $10,053-to-win finale via a third-place performance in his heat, Parker faded three spots in the 53-lap affair to register a 10th-place finish.
In his first year on tour with the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals, Martin finished sixth in the final point standings.
