Inside Line Promotions – LEXINGTON, Tenn. (June 2, 2021) – Derek Hagar posted a pair of top 10s during Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour competition at Lake Ozark Speedway before he capped Memorial Day Weekend with another top-10 outing during a USCS Series national event.

Hagar finished seventh on Saturday before charging from 16th to sixth on Sunday during the inaugural Sprint and Midget Nationals presented by The Drivers Project.

“I feel pretty good about coming out of Lake Ozark without a torn up race car,” he said. “It sucks for everybody because it wasn’t a great race and was hard on equipment. We had to survive and get what you could get.”

The weekend started on Saturday with Hagar qualifying seventh quickest out of 46 drivers. He then won a heat race to advance into a dash. A fifth-place run in the dash lined him up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

“We were a little too free, but I was scared to tighten it up because of the ruts,” he said. “We fell back a couple of positions in the feature. We could have changed some things on the car to make it better, but it was one of those deals where I was trying not to tear the car up.”

Hagar followed his seventh-place run by qualifying 18th quickest on Sunday. A fourth-place finish in a heat race locked him into the 16th starting position for the A Main.

“We didn’t qualify very well,” he said. “We made it through the heat, but we didn’t make a dash so we started toward the back. It took us forever to get the feature started. I think I was running 11th before we completed a lap. We just held on. The race track started going away and the car came to me toward the end. We closed in on fifth place, but ran out of time. Overall it was a success coming out of there without anything torn up.”

Hagar was patient and avoided the ruts en route to the sixth-place finish, which was his seventh top 10 of the season.

He then headed to Lexington 104 Speedway for a USCS Series Speedweek show. Hagar advanced from fifth to third place in a heat race and from 10th to seventh place in the main event.

“It was a last-minute deal to run there,” he said. “It was drive six hours home or drive six hours and get to race.

“Track position is key there. You pretty much finish where you start, but it was a successful night. Everything rolled in the box and we were able to get it ready to race this weekend.”

Hagar returns to action this Saturday at Legit Speedway Park in West Plains, Mo., with the ASCS Warrior Region and ASCS Mid-South Region.

“I’ve ran an ASCS National Tour show there, but it’s probably been 10 to 15 years ago,” he said. “I want to say we had a top-five run. It was a good night. I remember the track was slick with real tight corners. If it’s like that it will fit our driving style.”
