Hagar Records Runner-Up Result During ASCS National Tour Event at Riverside

Inside Line Promotions – WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (July 20, 2020) – Derek Hagar captured a runner-up result with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour a week ago Saturday during an event hosted by Riverside International Speedway.

Hagar began the night by maneuvering from fifth to second place in a heat race, which earned him a spot into the feature redraw.

“It was a good first night out in our car,” he said. “We had a good heat race and made the redraw, which is always the goal to start each night.”

Hagar pulled the No. 2 to line up on the outside of the front row for the 30-lap main event.

“Harli (White) got the jump on us,” he said. “She about spun out and we got by her. Then I got hung up behind a car and she got back around us. It was going to be a heck of a race in traffic, but the yellow came out. Once she got clean air we didn’t have anything for her.”

Hagar took the lead on Lap 3 and led the following four laps before dropping to second. He spent the remainder of the race within striking distance of the leader, but ultimately settled for a second-place showing. It marked his first podium in limited starts with the ASCS National Tour since September 2018.

“We should have had a little more gear,” he said. “I couldn’t run the bottom. I had to stay up a little higher on the track to keep the motor wound up.”

Hagar plans on returning to action this Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., with the ASCS Mid-South Region.
