Hagar Second to Crawley in USCS

2008 USCS Mid South Thunder regional series Champion, Tim Crawley from Benton, Arkansas out-gunned 2006 USCS Rookie of the Year, Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas in the duel to the first turn, to lead the first lap around the 1/4mile Beebe Speedway clay oval on Friday night. Crawley then, led the balance of the 30-lap United Sprint Car Series presented by Goodyear main event to collect the $2000 top prize and his sixth USCS win of the 2010 season in Mike Ward’s Boatersports sponsored #88 winged sprint car.
Hagar managed to hold off two other hard-charging Arkansas young guns, Justin Sturch and Cody Gardner both from Benton, Arkansas for the runner-up spot. Sturch crossed the finish line in third place. Gardner, who got collected in Marshall Skinner’s Butlerbuilt Second Heat race crash, started in last place in the main event and charged to fourth place. Veteran eight-time USCS National Champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee rounded out the top five finishers.

Rookie Jerod Roller from Olive Branch, Mississippi led the next group of finishers in sixth place followed by Lewis Jenkins, Jr. from Bryant, Arkansas in seventh place. The current USCS Rookie of the Year point’s leader, seventeen year-old Morgan Turpen from Bartlett, Tennessee finished in the eighth position. 2009 USCS Mid South Thunder Tour regional series Rookie of the Year, 18-year old, Jon Stinson from Memphis, Tennessee followed her in ninth place and veteran sprint car racer, Ronny Howard from Nesbit, Mississippi rounded out the top ten drivers.

Crawley collected the most passing points in the qualifying heat races. He then drew a zero in the K&N Filters Pole Award drawing to keep his K&N Filters Pole Position starting spot. Derek Hagar captured the win in the 6-cars, 6-laps Goodyear Speed Dash. Crawley also won the 8-lap Engler Machine and Tool First Heat. Terry Gray won the 8-lap Butlerbuilt Second Heat.

The Goodyear Racing Tire Young Guns award for the top finishing driver under 25 years-old went to the nineteen year-old Derek Hagar er who finished in fourth place. Jerod Roller garnered the Rookie of the Race honors. Cody Gardner passed the most cars in the main event to earn the evening’s KSE Racing Products Hard charger Award as well. Tim Crawley also collected the K&N Filters Pole Award. The JE Pistons Top Guns Award which rotates from 1st through fifth positions went to Cody Gardner who finished fourth.
