The End of 2011

This past Saturday night it was the car owner’s turn to travel. With the races in Jackson MN done for the year, Dick Veekners made the trek to I-90 Speedway in Hartford SD.

The team made a few minor adjustments to the car and changed gears to get the car in shape for the 3/8-mile track. Starting 8th in the first heat race Eric moved up two spots to miss the transfer spot for the A-main by one. It was apparent that the gearing was too high.

After a few adjustments and another gear change, the #4 sprinter took to the track on the pole for the B-main. Eric had to settle for 2nd but still made the transfer for the A-main! “The car was working great for the B-main, the gear change was perfect, and I barley had to turn the wheel!” Stated Eric at the end of the night.

Getting 2nd in the B-main slated Schulz in the 17th starting position for the A-main. At the start of the race on the back stretch their was a two car wreck moving Eric up to 1 their was a two car wreck moving Eric up to 15th on the complete restart. By lap 5 Schulz was racing hard for 10th when the car behind him tried pulling a slide job on the bottom and started to spin out in front of Schulz. As Eric moved high to take evasive actions, the spinning car corrected and slid even higher up the track, once again into the path of the #4 machine. The two cars collided sending Eric up off the racing surface. When the car came back down there was nothing more that could be done but hold on as it rolled to a stop upside down. Eric climbed out unharmed, but the night was over for the team.

The season is winding to a halt for Eric, but the 2012 season is already starting to shape up! It will be a busy off season getting the 410 ready for a more solid schedule! Plus talks have already begun to race at Jackson on a weekly schedule. Check back often as more news comes for 2012. Also we have a stash of photo’s that will be on soon.
