Eric Schulz
Schulz takes the top spot!
Sioux Falls SD native Eric “Ricochet” Schulz left Rapid Speedway Friday night carrying some extra hardware, as he drove his Papik Motors Sprinter to the first win of the season!
Ricochet Racing showed up to the track with two members missing. “It was a lot of work with two people gone,” stated Schulz, “but with the help from other crews we were able to get done everything that was needed.” The track was heavy as Eric pushed off for his heat race, starting on the inside of the second row, Eric would have to make his move quick. He maneuvered his number 4 racer up to second quickly but could not chase down the leader. With two laps to go, third place was putting pressure on Eric, however, he would be able to fend off the would be assailant to remain in second.
As the night wore on, Schulz and his crew watched the track. “Before the B-Main in the 410 Sprints, the track still looked heavy, but we noticed it was changing rapidly.” Eric proclaimed. Schulz made some adjustments to the car and lined up on the outside of row two for the HRA Sprint Car A-main. “I had some heavy hitters starting behind me,” said Schulz after the races, “I knew that I had to get out front and get some distance on everyone else.” That is exactly what Eric did, as the laps ticked off the score sheet, the Jack Egge’s Automatic Transmission Service #4 was still on top. As Eric caught up with some other racers battling out their own race, you could almost feel the urgency to get them between him and second place. When the checkered flag flew Schulz was in the midst of a pack of cars still deciding their finishing order, but for Eric the race was his!
Eric pulled the victorious car back to its stall and treated the crowd to a cage dance to help celebrate the win!
Saturday it was off to Jackson Speedway to drive for Dick Veenkers in the red #4 winged sprint car. The car preformed well on the heavy track, and Eric drove to a fifth place in his heat race. You could hear Eric state, “It was fun holding the loud pedal to the belly pan all the way around the big ½ mile track.” As he grinned from ear to ear!
As the team got ready for the main event mother nature again stepped in and sent everyone home, cutting the evening and the rest of this article short.
