Eric Schulz
Schulz post a podium finish Friday in Rock Rapids
As the Papik Motors racing team pulled in to the pits it was obvious that the track was going to be heavy all night long. “We took a look at the track and immediately started making changes to the hot rod,” explained Sioux Falls native Eric Schulz. Eric took to the track for his heat race starting in fourth. With the drivers throwing their cars into the corners, the track was very tacky, and the sprint cars looked more like motorcycles as they rode the right side wheels around the corners. “The track was real heavy, I had to really tip toe through the corners, but the number 4 sprinter was a rocket coming down the straits!” Exclaimed Schulz. After “Biking” the car once on each end of the track, Schulz slide under the checkers in front of the rest of the pack, setting the Kiezer Wheels sprinter on the outside of the third row for the feature!
As the green flag flew, Schulz piloted his car to the high side of the track and picked up a few spots right of the bat. “The car was really working great for the first half of the race, the track really slicked off faster than we expected. I figured I would start defending 2nd as I watched the leader pullout to a strait-a-way lead,” says Schulz, “after a nice battle to keep 2nd, we just couldn’t hold on to the spot anymore.” Schulz displayed a lot of patience as the car fought for traction. In the end third was the magic number for the night! “I think we had a very productive night, we learned quite a bit and were able to roll the car on the trailer. And a third is nothing to complain about!”
