Schulz puts up another solid top five!

Sioux Falls native Eric “Ricochet” Schulz was a man on a mission Friday night at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids IA. Starting in the fourth spot for the heat race, Schulz had to work hard to get the Hair Graphix number 4 sprinter up into the 2nd spot after losing ground on the start of the race. “The track really dried out fast for our heat race, we set up for a little heavier track. I did what I had to, and moved up in the field,” explained Schulz as he removed his gear.
With the track going to dry slick real fast during the features, Schulz and the crew went to work on the Papik Motors sprinter, preparing it for the 18 lap feature that the number 4 was slated for the inside third row to start. Upon the start of the race Schulz tangled with another car and had to get a new Hoosier put on the left rear. This brought out the yellow and a complete restart, with Schulz in the rear of the field. As the green flag dropped over the fourteen sprinters that signed in to do battle, Schulz started his march to the front. “I took a couple of laps to try a few different lines, however the bottom was the place to be,” said Schulz. As the track took rubber, Schulz took spots. He was getting one car a lap almost every lap. Once he got to sixth, there was quite a gap to the leaders. “I knew I needed a caution to get anymore positions,” exclaimed Schulz, “no later than I thought that, we got a caution!” The pack lined up and the green flew over the track, Schulz made quick work of fifth place, but really had to battle for fourth, which is where he ended up when the checkers flew.
“We had a lot of opportunities to wad up the Jack Egge Automatic Transmission Service number 4, but I wanted to get to the front and win tonight, I think lady luck was on our side tonight while on the track. In the pits it was all the crew, when I came in for the flat left rear, I knew that there wasn’t much time. With my crew on the ball, and members of other crews pitching in, we were able to get this hot rod back on the track. I have to thank my crew for doing such a great job! There is no way I would be able to get as much stuff changed as we did alone. Thanks guys for your hard work!”
Catch Eric and the crew next Friday the Fourth of June at Rapid Speedway as the hunt for the championship continues! And remember, support the businesses that support racing!
