Eric Schulz
Schulz gets his second top five of the year!
All in all it was a good night! Eric was set for the third heat race of the HRA sprints, “The car was really working, and with the track being heavy it was good to start in the front of the pack, the number 4 Woodke Racing Engines sprinter really pulled well coming out of the corners and down the strait. With the mag giving in last week, it was nice to know the motor was back to 100%.” Said Schulz after he took home the checkers in the heat! The crew went to work right away on the Papik Motors sprinter, making final adjustments for a track that was drying out. Schulz was to line the number 4 up on the outside of row one for the main. “I was relieved to see that I was starting up front with 19 cars slated on the board.” After three complete restarts Eric got the lead and stayed there! “It was a little nerve racking to have to go through three complete restarts, the car was close but still a little out of shape, I really had to stay on my toes.” On a red flag the crew made a few adjustments and the races where under way again. “The adjustments seemed to help for awhile, but as the race wore on the car really loosened up.” Stated Eric. With a comfortable lead it looked like Schulz might have this one in the bag. However, with a car spinning with 5 laps to go, a restart was needed, and Schulz’ lead was gone. Eric and the crew knew it would be hard to keep the lead going into the first corner, which is where the 29 of Gary Zitterich challenged for the lead. Eric was able to battle back down the straight, but couldn’t hold on going into three. “We had a good lead going up until the restart, but with everyone bunched back up, we just didn’t have the car for the end of the race.” Eric explained. With the final laps winding down Schulz battled with four cars for the top spot, but came up short in the end. “We finished fourth for the night and I am really proud of the team for working hard tonight! We are still figuring out this new car, and we learned a lot as the track slicked off. We will go back to the garage and change a few things this week and go out and try to improve on the night!” Eric said as he was signing autographs at the end of the race.
