Eric Schulz
Misfortune strikes for Schulz.
The season opener at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids IA started off looking real promising for Sioux Falls native Eric Schulz. With the infield full of cars the Papik Motors number 4 sprinter was greeted with a perfectly groomed track, and after hot laps it looked like the Schnee Chassis was going to work great for the night. “I hit the track with my foot on the floor, I don’t think I lifted once while on the track. This car is working!” Says Eric. Schulz went out for his heat race and lined up on the inside of the third row. After battling his way up through the field and the checkers flew, he found himself in the third spot. After a quick talk with his crew, they decided to make a few changes and head out for the feature. “I had a really decant starting position, outside second row. After cutting a few laps I knew that the Jack Egge Automatic Transmission Service sprinter was fast!” With the red flag flying over the track early in the race Schulz pulled down to the bottom of the track, running third, and waited for the clean up. “I was replaying those first few laps trying to come with a strategy for the rest of the race. We got pushed off and was idling around the track getting lined up, and in turns one and two the car just shut off.” Explained a disappointed Eric. They got the pushed back into the pits and tried a couple of quick fixes, but the car would not re-fire. “I think the mag just gave up on us.” Stated Eric after checking a few things out on the car. “Not the way we wanted to start the year off.”
Eric and the crew went to work on the car right away when they got back to Ricochet Racing world headquarters, getting ready for next week at Rapid Speedway. Be sure to come on down and cheer Eric on as he looks to change his luck. Keep track of Eric on and off the track at www.ericschulzracing.com. We will see ya at the races!
