Tyson Fence 2024 Season Opener at BAPS Motor Speedway Recap

YORK HAVEN, Pa.: Season openers held in the twilight of the afternoon are normally won from the first two rows on the starting grid.
Then again, the Meyer's RV Super Sportsman division at BAPS Motor Speedway is a different animal. And so is Kenny Edkin, one of the best drivers to sit behind the wheel in this class at the speedway.
Edkin made it work. He carved his way through the field from his 10th starting spot and took the lead on the 13th circuit. From there, he was the class of the field in the 25-Lap Meyers RV Super Sportsman main event.
Matt Ondek started on the pole and beat Scott Dellinger to the first corner and led Lap 1. Dellinger didn’t go away and stalked the leader before taking the top spot away on the second circuit.
Meanwhile, Edkin was charging to the front. The Marysville, Pa., ace was into the top five by Lap 4 and slid past Ondek on Lap 11 before chasing down the leader.

It didn’t take Edkin long to make his move. He caught Dellinger on the 13th circuit and surged into the lead. Two laps later, Chad Baker stopped on the backstretch and gave Dellinger a chance to retake the position.
There were two more cautions, but Edkin was too strong. By the time the checkered flag flew, he had a .983-second victory and his 35th-career win at the speedway.

Dellinger settled for second, with Ondek taking third. Luke Deatrick and John Edkin completed the top five in the main event.

In the Creekside Auto Sales Late Model feature, Coleby Frye marched from ninth to the victory in the 20-Lap affair.

There were three cautions over the race distance. Frye was into the top five by Lap 3 and took over second three laps later. Getting by Drew Weisser was a little more difficult, as Frye had to wait until a restart after a Lap 16 caution.
Once out front, Frye never looked back and took the victory by 1.288 seconds.

The final event of the day came courtesy of the East Coast Legends Series. Jordan Miklas took advantage of Colton Friese’s misfortune and led the final two laps of the main event.
Friese took the lead from Bob Stough on Lap 4 and led the next eight circuits. Unfortunately, the leader and Tanner Jones made contact, which sent Friese into a spin and Jones to the rear of the field.
Miklas took over and led the final three laps for the win. Shaun Abney, Stephen Wurtzer, Mason Chaney, and Logan Jones completed the top five.
