Goldesberry Earns Pair of Top 5’s with IRA at Wilmot & Angell Park
You wouldn’t think running a big half mile like Knoxville for a week against the best sprint car drivers in the world would give the Rockstar Energy Drink team the notes and confidence they needed to get back up front with the IRA Sprints on the short tracks of Wisconsin.
“It’s weird but we did learn some things at Knoxville that definitely helped us this past weekend.” the 2022 IRA Champion stated. “Things with the car, our engine program and honestly it was just nice to go down there and reset as a team. It’s been a rough go at it this year but it seems like we have a lot of things figured out now so we can finish the season strong.”
On Saturday night at Wilmot, the Rockstar Energy Drink #65 made the Dash Redraw after qualifying 9th overall and taking the win in Heat #3. Goldesberry finished 5th in Dash #2 and lined up 10th to start the 30 Lap Roger Iles Tribute feature. Making up spots early, Goldesberry weaved his way through traffic and the better part of the top 10 runners to finish 5th at the checkered flag.
“It felt really good to actually move forward and have a ton of speed to compete with the guys up front again at Wilmot.” Goldesberry said of the Kenosha County Fair race. “Just kind of ran out of laps at the end to get up on the podium.”
Sunday night the Springfield, IL based team followed the IRA tour to the annual Corn Fest race at the historic Angell Park Speedway. Goldesberry set the overall quick time of the night during qualifying with a 13.119 second lap. That put the #65 in the dash once again, where a 4th to 3rd run meant Goldesberry would line up 5th for the night’s A Main. After a nearly race-long battle with fellow Illinois driver Kyle Schuett for 4th and 5th, Goldesberry came out on top and crossed the line 4th for a second consecutive top 5 finish and sixth overall on the year.
“It’s just good to be back up front where we know this team belongs.” Goldesberry said of the two-race weekend. “We’re definitely in a good position now where we can close out the season strong.”
The solid weekend also vaulted Goldesberry to 4th in IRA points and with a solid shot at closing in on a top 3 spot in the coming races.
The IRA tour will take this coming weekend off before returning with another doubleheader on August 31st at the Plymouth Dirt Track for the popular Sheboygan County Fair race and September 1st at a new track for the series in The Hill Raceway in the beautiful Door County town of Sturgeon Bay, WI.
Tickets for the weekend’s events will be available at the respective facilities on race day, and both nights will be broadcast live on FloRacing for those unable to make it to the track.
