Bacon Rides Momentum into Indiana Sprint Week after Second Corn Belt Nationals Triumph!

Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (July 24, 2020) – Brady Bacon and Hoffman Auto Racing Fatheadz Eyewear No. 69 Sprint Car team are gaining momentum.

It is momentum they seek to carry into USAC’s Indiana Sprint Week that kicks off Friday night at Gas City I-69 Speedway, the first of seven races over the course of nine nights throughout the Hoosier State.

Bacon enters the week of action fresh off a second consecutive Corn Belt Nationals triumph at the storied Knoxville Raceway in Iowa on July 11. It makes Bacon two-for-two in the prestigious event after posting a runner-up finish in the preliminary event the previous night.

“It was fairly hard to pass on Friday night,” Bacon said of the preliminary run as he tried to sweep the event for the second year in a row. “I had one shot at it and tried something in traffic and didn’t quite get there.”

Bacon made the most of the situation, gaining positions on Saturday.

“I passed some cars in our heat race and that was important, it put us up front for the feature,” Bacon recounts.

After earning the pole position, “The Macho Man” gunned into the lead at the outset and paced the field the entire 30-lap distance for his fifth USAC National Sprint Car win of the year and sixth overall. It was a win worth $20,000.

“We had a really good car all night on Saturday,” Bacon says. “(Justin) Grant was there with us, so we had to run a lot harder pace this time to stay up front.”

Now Bacon and the Hoffman crew are ready to run the Sprint Week gamut, an opportunity to gain ground in the series title chase as he enters the week ranked third in his pursuit of a third national title.

“We just have to be consistent and get good finishes all week and hopefully some wins,” Bacon says. “Hopefully we can gain some points along the way.”

The week kicks off with three consecutive nights at Gas City, Kokomo and Lawenceburg. Then after two idle days, the final four nights take place at Terre Haute, Putnamville, Bloomington and Haubstadt.
