Brady Bacon – New Owner/Driver Looking to Get Back in Routine!
(Bill W) March 21, 2011 – Brady Bacon heads into this weekend’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Series event at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas as the new owner of the former Tel-Star Communications #99 team. The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver took over ownership of the team just before his Beaumont, Texas race a couple of weeks ago. Tel-Star will remain a sponsor on the Brady Bacon racing machine, but Brady will now own and operate the team himself.
Brady is excited for his opportunity. “I’ve taken over the ownership of the team from Mike and Megan Eubanks,” he says. “They have presented me with a great yet challenging opportunity and, obviously, they will still be a big part of the team. The expenses are on me now though and I’m running the team myself.”
The 2010 ASCS Hard-Charger of the Year is thankful for all his partners. “We have some great people helping us, and I wanted to get the word out about the change in ownership,” he says. “We can use all the help we can get with the team, and I feel we’re headed in a great direction going for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Series title.”
Rather than stay idle this past weekend, the Brady Bacon Racing #99 team headed to the I-30 Speedway near Little Rock, Arkansas for a weekly show. “We had some things to check out,” explains Brady. “We wanted to check on the rear-end we ran in Tulare (California) to make sure it was o.k. It was fine. It also gave us some laps at Little Rock for the bigger shows later in the year.”
The night was not without issues. They happened in hot laps. “We were missing in the eight cylinder,” says Brady. “After trying a few things, we just changed the motor. That kind of set us back a little.”
A win from the pole of the heat race in the Triple X Chassis/Wesmar powered sprinter set up a start outside of row three for the feature. He would checker fourth. “We got the car a little too tight,” he explains. “I made a few too many mistakes. I feel like we had a second place car, that’s not the way it turned out. Gary Taylor won, and he was fast.”
The red clay quarter-mile oval was in top shape. “The track was really good,” says Brady. “I thought it would go away (slick off) more than it did. It had a good top and bottom to it.”
After a few weeks off from his primary goal of an ASCS National championship, Brady is excited to get to the banked half-mile in Mesquite. “We’ve ran well there the last several times we’ve been there,” he says. “We’re getting faster, so it should go really well. I’m just looking forward to getting back into a normal ‘ASCS routine’.”
