Henderson Makes A Statement Win, Doss Doubles Up In Legends

It was a picture-perfect Friday afternoon as the 2022 season at Redwood Acres Raceway continued for the third time this year. It had been a long break between races with the race scheduled on June 4 forced to cancelation due to rainy weather. The Friday race presented by DelReka Distributing coincided with the return of the Redwood Acres Fair and a packed grandstand was in attendance to watch some amazing racing.

The late model main event was a 60-lap race with Luke Hall taking the lead for the first 10 circuits. David Henderson powered by Hall and was able to pull away. Hall fell back to fourth after Mike Doss and Jeremy Doss were able to take second and third positions. The father/son combo closed the gap to a matter of just a few car lengths and it seemed as though the second and third place runners were content to settle in and save their tires.

As the race wore on, it became clear that Henderson had the handling advantage as the gap between himself and the Doss duo became greater as the laps wound down. At the finish it was Henderson winning in dominant fashion by one second over Mike Doss. Jeremy Doss was third followed by Brandon Barnwell and Hall.

Jeremy Doss paced the field with a 17.586 qualifying lap. The first of two 25-lap feature events featured a spectacular battle between Doss and Brandon White. Both drivers race a hard but clean back and forth event with Doss coming out on top. White placed second followed by Chris Lawrence, Jordon Paiment and Brett Murrell.

As fantastic as the first main event was, the second main was even more thrilling. The two drivers traded the lead numerous times throughout the race. Doss was able to get the upper hand in the late stages. On the final lap, White attempted to get a strong run off the second turn. Doss was savvy to White’s maneuver and held the bottom line tight coming off turn two. It proved to be the winning move as White’s momentum was halted allowing Doss to retain the lead all the way to the finish line. White again placed second with Paiment, Murrell and Chris Sarvinski rounding out the top five.

Bomber qualifying was paced by Ryan Walters with a 18.404 time. The 10-lap heat was won by Walters and in the 30-lap main event, it looked as though Walters would sweep the night as he led comfortably over the rest of the field. Walters suddenly slowed late in the going and came to a stop which allowed Raquel Krupa to take the lead. Krupa made a surprising error on the restart, spinning out of the lead and handing it to Gannon Cyphers who was filling in for Steve Kimberling. Cyphers couldn’t hold the lead as Jordan Krupa took over the position. Raquel Krupa was back on her game and was able to get back to the front and take the lead from her brother Jordan to take the win. Jordan Krupa was second over Cyphers and Kadence Toland while Walters was credited with fifth.

Gannon Cyphers drove his mini stock to the victory in the heat race. The main event thrilled the grandstands as Cyphers took the lead early but was forced to fight off Brian Murrell, Jr. It was a clean battle as Murrell was in Cyphers mirror lap after lap hoping to force Cyphers into an error. Even with the experience of Murrell behind him, Cyphers never faltered and was able to take the narrow victory. Jarrett Mayo placed third followed by Cole Peterson and Colton Kinsey.

Jeremiah Martin was the winner of the roadrunner heat race. Things got exciting in a hurry in the main event when Martin hit the barrier at the pit entrance on the first lap. Thankfully Martin was unhurt and was actually able to make it back out when the race restarted. Tim Ratzlaff was subbing for Tanisha Ratzlaff for the night and he took the race lead early. Brian Hopkins was Ratzlaff’s closest contender but Ratzlaff had things in control by the finish. At the checkered flag it was Ratzlaff winning over Hopkins, Martin, Dylan Ford and Nick Ford.

The next event at Redwood Acres Raceway takes place Saturday July 9. It will be a full night of racing with Harper Motors presenting the Firecracker 100 for the late models. The Upstate Bomber Series will be making their first visit of the year to the Acres while Legends, mini stocks and roadrunners will also be racing. A fireworks display will follow directly after the conclusion of the races.
