Inside Line Promotions – TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (July 13, 2020) – Both Jason Sides and Tim Kaeding recorded a top-10 finish for Sides Motorsports last weekend when the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series visited three different tracks.
Sides produced his second-best outing of the season on Saturday at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis., while Kaeding earned his best finish of the year with the team on Sunday at Terre Haute Action Track.
“I think it was pretty good,” Sides said of the weekend. “Just putting the second car up and down two or three nights and traveling will wear you out.”
Sides gained four positions to finish 12th on Friday at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa. His best performance of the weekend came the following night at Wilmot Raceway, where he qualified fourth quickest, placed second in a heat race, ended fifth in the dash and capped the night with a 10th-place result in the A Main.
“Restarts were what bit us,” he said. “I’d get such a drive off turn four that when I’d get to turns one and two I’d have to lift, the car would push and people would get under me. Once I had speed it was fine, but on the restarts in the first and second corner when you’d be jumbled up behind somebody was when we lost ground. However, any time you get a top 10 out here with all these guys it’s good.”
Sides had charged from 22nd toward the top 10 on Sunday at Terre Haute Action Track, but a broken u-joint ended his night early.
“We were running 13th or 14th, but it was getting better,” he said. “I feel like we would have finished 10th or 11th. The track was kind of rough and the way it was bouncing and going through the ruts I think is what broke it.”
Sunday was the best night for Kaeding, who placed 16th at 34 Raceway and 11th at Wilmot Raceway. He rallied from 14th to eighth at Terre Haute Action Track.
“Neither one of us qualified very well,” Sides said. “We were going to ride it out and see how it went. He passed a few cars. On a red flag we pulled up next to each other and talked. I said, ‘Let’s not pull in just yet.’ He ended up eighth, which was real good.”
Sides resumes World of Outlaws competition on Tuesday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, during the Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic.
