Minnesota Missile Monday: Carder Picks Up First Emma Win

The second event of the 2022 season for 1KC Motorsports was held at Emma Indoor Raceway for their 7th point race in their 21-22 winter season back on February 12th. KC Sparks was among a class of seven drivers in the box stock wing kart division. Liam Burton represented Missouri. Ayden Erickson made the long haul from northern Wisconsin. The “Minnesota Missile” KC Sparks was the Minnesota representation. A duo of drivers from South Dakota took to the track with Brogan Carder and Micah Haugan wheeling their karts. Iowa also had a pair of drivers racing in Emma with Alex Yoerger and Bentley Long.
Haugan drew the front row pill to set the pace alongside the point leader, Long. Haugan ran a smooth race and in the nonstop heat race, he built up a comfortable lead to cruise to the heat race win. Behind Haugan, Carder, Yoerger, and Sparks moved ahead of Long with Erickson and Barton finishing the heat race.
Using passing points, the South Dakota drivers lined up on the front row with Carder on the pole and Haugan alongside. After a couple attempts at the start, the field finally went green from single file formation with Carder getting out to the lead. Yoerger moved ahead of Haugan with Sparks following into third in the next set of turns.
Haugan would fend off other challenges to hold his fourth place running position while Yoerger was driving his kart as hard as he could to hold off Sparks. Meanwhile, Carder was setting a blistering pace and pulled away from the battle behind him.
With three to go in the 20 lap feature, Sparks drove to the inside of Yoerger down the frontstretch forcing Yoerger into the unpreferred line where the back end of his kart came around. Sparks was looking forward to a battle with his friend, Carder, but instead was sent to the tail of the field.
Out front, Carder quickly pulled away from Yoerger while Erickson moved from fourth up into the top three. Sparks drove hard over the final two circuits and came home in fourth ahead of Long, Haugan, and Barton.
