Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (June 13, 2018) – Tony Bruce Jr. competed in the first half of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com Speedweek as well as a 305ci winged sprint car show during the last week.

Bruce Jr. piloted a 360ci winged sprint car for Mike Hayashi throughout the trio of Speedweek races in Texas, scoring a pair of top 10s.

“The first night we pulled double duty and was able to come away with a third in the 305,” he said. “In the 360 deal we just couldn’t get out of the back. We started on the last row of the heat race and toward the back of the A Main. We had a lot of speed. It was just one of those situations where we started so far back it was tough to really advance forward. The track was pretty racy, but every line was really fast.”

Bruce Jr. finished where he started in both a heat race – sixth – and the A Main – 16th – at West Texas Speedway in Lubbock, Texas.

He also competed in the 305 division that night for Terry Steward and Scott Brown. Bruce Jr. advanced from sixth to second place in a heat race before maneuvering from fifth to third place in the main event.

“We were pretty good,” he said. “Driving the 305 is a lot different. It took a little getting used to. We had an okay run. We’d have liked to be better in the A Main, but I had to start in the back of everything because of points average. It was a good learning process to get geared up for this weekend.”

Bruce Jr. tackled an ASCS National Tour Speedweek race at Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas, on Saturday. He posted a runner-up result in a heat race to earn a spot into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 3 during the random redraw to start the A Main on the inside of the second row.

“We were running up front for the most part,” he said. “We just didn’t have the speed as the race went on. The biggest problem was getting the fuel for the motor right because the air is so bad. We just kind of missed it with what we needed and it wasn’t running to its full capacity.”

Bruce Jr. spent much of the race in the top five before fading to a seventh-place result.

His Speedweek concluded on Tuesday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. Bruce Jr. advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race, which ranked ninth in overall points. That was one position shy of making the feature redraw and lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the A Main.

“I thought we were pretty good and we had some really good speed,” he said. “We made some changes on our fueling. The only problem was there weren’t a lot of cars even in the support divisions so the track never had a chance to get slick. It stayed pretty narrow all night. As good as we were we couldn’t do anything with it.”

Bruce Jr. ran inside the top 10 throughout the main event before ending ninth, which was his fifth top 10 of the season.

“I feel like we made progress,” he said. “We didn’t get the result that we wanted in Amarillo, but it’s difficult to just jump in a car that doesn’t race very often and go out there and compete with some of the best there is. We had some good runs so I’m looking forward to getting back in the car with them later this summer.”

Bruce Jr. exits Speedweek ranked 10th in the standings.

He will tackle the Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP Sprint Car Nationals this Friday and Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan., where he will drive for Steward and Brown.
